“A great chain hotel, well located.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

I booked this hotel as a result of its selection for the 2011 Universiade. I knew it was a Chinese chain hotel so my expectations were moderate. The staff were very helpful and surprisingly good at english. The room was comfortable, if not slightly small for our 8 day stay, but well layed out for the 2 of us. The bed was somewhat firm, which was expected. The gym and 4th floor outdoor swimming pool were terrific, and we used it daily. The main restaurant had a great buffet breakfast and OK a la'carte dinner. The location was great, close to the Metro and Coco Park shopping. There were a number of eating places nearby and our preference was an Irish pub we frequented each night. Overall a great experience and I would recommend to anyone.

“Everything you need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

The hotel has just what you need on a business trip.

One minus is that the rooms are small.

The gym, and the spa is good.

“average hotel - average service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

Check-in service was poor. They didn't direct us to the lifts or rooms and didn't inform us of the complimentary services that comes with the club rooms until late at night when a letter was shoved under our door (which was too late to enjoy by then). They also seemed confused by the Hotel Promotional Offers that were listed on their website (since we made our booking online).

The restaurant Cafe Marco closes by 9:30pm so not very convenient unless you plan on an early dinner or don't mind eating fast. We went to the restaurant at 8:30pm and the staff didn't tell us the closing time until after we've sat down.

The pool facilities requires a swimming cap. You're not allowed to enter unless you have one which of course you can purchase in their hotel shop. However, they didn't have any left and said that we had to go out to buy one by ourselves without telling us the directions. Highly inconvenient and unhelpful for a five-star hotel.

There are other five-star hotels in the area which would probably offer better services if you want something more relaxing. However, the location so close to the metro makes Marco Polo quite convenient.

Room Tip: Club Rooms are nice. Be sure to enjoy the benefits

“A First Rate Hotel Deserves a First Rate Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2011

Owing to some problems in getting some freight from the US into the PRC, I ended up with a bit of free time on my hands and made the move from my hotel on the outskirts of town to this wonderful hotel in Shenzhen's financial district, the Futian.

First and foremost, this is a modern, high-quality hotel staffed by professionals. Everything one would need is available on site, and it's all immaculate. The rooms are well designed in a contemporary style that I liked so much that I photographed mine and upon return to the USA, set out to decorate my office in a similar style.

Breakfast in the hotel is perfect - everything one would find at an upscale Sunday brunch in the States. There are two bars and a lobby-level lounge. Probably 60% of the guests are there to do business, so you'll find a lot of people in suits in the morning and the afternoon. I noticed several families from the US / Europe and a few tour groups of the same.

The hotel is a little smaller and a bit more reigned in that some of the more far-out Shangrila and other properties, so those expecting full casino-style range or glitz might notice the difference. This does not mean the hotel is in any way the "economy tour" - you will not come away with this impression whatsoever.

The location of this hotel is central to many good restaurants, nightclubs, and the Coco Park shopping mall. Coco is the furthest - about three blocks away - and has everything one would expect in a modern, upscale shopping center, plus a multiplex movie theatre and access to the metro (subway). The metro at Coco is the main line that will take you across the bulk of the city. At one end of the line you'll reach the LoWu area - one of Shenzhen's key shopping areas. You can also walk from the Marco Polo to City Hall and everything they have there (art museums, science exhibits, indoor shopping mall) but it's best to take a cab in order to avoid crossing one of Shenzhen's busy East-West boulevards on foot.

I have recomended this hotel to friends and family, and would choose this hotel again, without a second thought in my mind. The moment I first walked into the lobby I knew I had found a great place.
