“Breathtakingly beautiful but service needs to pep up!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Lallgarh Palace Hotel in Bikaner is definitely true to its name- unmatched jewel in the Thar Desert! Shining in the setting sun, the palace mesmerizes you and lets you breathe royalty as you walk into the gates! But the rest needs help! Condition of the rooms needs desperate corrective measures. In the name of heritage, you can't get away with rusted showers and broken windows! So that definitely needs to be checked before you check into the room to avoid shifting from one room to another!

The food is average cuz there aren't many options in the restaurant menu and the chefs don't match up to the star rating of the hotel. But in terms of food, the whole city doesn't have too much to offer, so not something you really could gauge!

The museum is in the Palace premises, so it's as convenient as it could get! So if you're a history lover and every pillar of a heritage structure talks to you, you could weave beautiful stories from your trip!

Room Tip: Check the bathrooms before you move in....!

“Character, but nothing else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

The grounds, lobby, and building are impressive from the outside.

The room was huge with a plaque explaining the prince who used the room in the 1930s.
The room had 1930s furniture or reproductions, but also seemed to have 1930s plumbing.
You decide how much character you want.

NO wifi and one old pricy computer. I walked 1/2 mile to an internet cafe.
Old tv with limited English channels ( one movie, one sports)
The breakfast was a very limited, average buffet.
AC works well.
I found the staff friendly.

We need to stay connected when we travel and would not stay here again.

“Grand ambience - takes you back in time!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

The hotel is grand. Lovely gardens, large rooms, lovely verandahs and balconies - all in red stone. Service is average. Food quality varies - from good to average. Staff is courteous but neeeds to spruce up on quality of service and timliness of service. Sometimes they are a bit laid back and can take their time in serving you. Breakfast time specially, service is slow.

“A beautiful location with bad service and unfriendly staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

This was one of the last 'Heritage Hotel' palaces that we stayed in on our trip around Rajasthan and when we arrived and saw the building we thought 'wonderful, another beautiful palace'. However, the inside of the hotel, the rooms and the service were a real let down. I know that the heritage hotels have a lot of the original details and not everything is up to date and that is what makes them so beautiful, but this hotel was ridiculous. Our room was really dated and dirty, with a very small old uncomfortable bed, a useless air conditioner that was held together with brown packing tape and no curtains at the windows that opened onto the hallway with a light on outside the room all night. The hotel pool is indoor and there is nowhere to sit either inside or outside and the staff were extremely rude when we asked them anything. There was what they called a bar, but it was a windowless room in the centre of the building furnished with what I can only describe as the style of an old people's home.

This is all such a shame as everyone in Rajasthan was so friendly and helpful and the staff in this hotel really spoilt our trip for us. Also, with only a little bit of work it could be made into a really beautiful hotel.

“Poor quality hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Hotel is posing as a "Heritage Hotel". It was shabby and had an uncared for feel about it. Rooms were large but bleak as was most of the hotel apart from the front main entrance which was a false representation of what is behind the doors. Pool was nice but nothing special and you certainly wouldnt want to get changed in the so called changing area as it was absolutely filthy!! We asked to use the bar which had to be unlocked and we had the feeling it was hardly used by anyone as it smelt really musty!! Staff were neither friendly or rude just "there". I would recommend the hotel right next door which was much more friendly and well kept. Worth paying a little extra for.
