“Get a glimpse of the royal lifestyle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

If you have ever wondered what it feels like to live the royals and you happen to be around in Jaisalmer, go check out the Lalgarh Palace. Part of it is a museum, which has lots of photos of the family of Ganga Singh, a former king in Rajasthan. The room tariffs should fit in the budget of many travellers, if they are not backpackers. You can explore the huuuuge rooms with 4m high ceilings and you can enjoy a great bed. You will however need to climb up a few steps to enter it! Some could say it is a bit dated, but it's clean and charming. We all cannot imagine how costly it has to be to maintain such a huge building! If you are into Palaces, then this will be great fun!

“Heritage is no excuse for rudeness and filth”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2010

I stayed at this hotel as part of an organised tour, naturally after reading the reviews I was anxious but keen to prove that people were perhaps overreacting.
I was greeted at this hotel with "What do you want!" not the best start to make your customer feel welcome my passport was then held for several hours with no explanation as to why.
Yes the room was certainly large but it was filthy the floors were grimy and the bedware very old the toilets were disgusting. If they call this a delux room I'd hate to see a normal one. There were holes in the bathroom ceiling and floor which I guess explains the appearance of a number of lizards, nothing like reptiles for company.
The staff however were the rudest and most indifferent that I have ever expereinced obviously they've never been taught to be curteous.
My experience in the dining room was apalling, they were too busy pandering after a large tour group to provide adequate service to me, I waited nearly an hour to have my simple meal which was grudgingly served to me somewhat cold. I've dined on my own many times in restaurants and never have I been made to feel so unwelcome.
To top things off while I was there they were filming a bollywood movie which kept me awake all night with the noise and lights and the next morning they failed to provided any breakfast for their guests.
I say we need to speak with our feet and avoid this place, just because it is a heritage hotel is no excuse for this sort of treatment of guests.

“Horrible Experience!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2010

I don't know where to start here. This was my first Rajasthan trip and overall I found that ratio of quality of service you get versus money you pay for your hotel is lowest in Rajasthan. But this hotel takes the cake in that aspect. Smelly musty rooms, dusty bed sheets, complete lack of hot water, broken tv, insufficient lights, street dogs roaming in the hotel passage, rude staff...yes I know these were some unbelievable things we faced during our stay here in last week of December 2009. Upon further inquiry we found out that hotel was overbooked and we were booted out at last moment in a detached abandoned property adjacent to main palace. Also breakfast food was very average and they ran out of it one hour before official closing time.
I know Bikaner is a small town and there might not be too much choices available but in my humble opinion if you can avoid this property then do it at any cost. It is not worth staying here just because it is classified as "Heritage". Somehow I am suspecting that this "Heritage" fascination has been drawing a steady flow of customers, high profile customers I may add, to this property and in this process the management has become very ignorant to address the very basic needs of a regular average customers.

We stayed in this hotel because we were upgraded by the agency - huge rooms, good service - something a little special. Nice indoor pool.
