I've been very much into eco-friendly hotels lately so I jumped at the opportunity to stay at Pop! Harris during our visit to Bali on Nov 29-Dec 3. I loved the location regardless of the hustle and bustle (I am a city girl, after all); it's surrounded by many conveniences such as fast food chains as well as sit-down restaurants, a Circle K very close by across the street, and even Blackberry cell phone stores in case you need to pick up plugs, adapters, or buy a phone card. It's also within a decent distant to many touristy spots such as Kuta and Jimbaran, and Ubud is approximately 45 minutes away, depending on traffic.
You will be wow-ed by the hospitality at this hotel, which all by itself deserves a five-star rating. Everyday we were greeted with a constant smile, nod, and a heartfelt "good morning" or "good evening." The front desk staff always appeared eager to assist, they listened to requests with a pen and pad in hand, and were sure to follow up that the requests had been fulfilled. Two thumbs up for them in managing hectic situations brilliantly, they prioritized guests' urgency accordingly and handled barks and complaints with admirable calmness, the friendly smile never faltered.
The layout of the room is verrrry cute, simple and to-the-point: bed, sink, shower, with enough space behind the door to store your luggage. Bed has shelf above head for your toiletries/makeup/book/whatnots. Perfect for travelers passing through Bali and visitors who love spending their days exploring the beauty of the island (like us). The showerpod truly is innovative, but beware of the scent of mold. Take care when stepping in as shower mats may be slippery.
Loved the bottled water left in the room every day. Cleanliness of hotel in general and of room in particular is also top notch.
Two improvements that need to be taken into account immediately:
1. Both taps on the water dispenser in the cafeteria, which seems to be the only one in the hotel, poured steaming hot water every day, morning to night. During our stay it was about 88 degrees Fahrenheit with 90% humidity -- ice cold mineral water would've been more than appreciated. True that we could buy cold drinks from the vending machines around the corner, but vending machines should be an option for guests, not mandatory. Staff members were very quick to help whenever I requested water, took my bottle to the back, and filled it up with tap-temperature water. Still not cold, but at least it wasn't steaming hot.
2. Rooms are fit for three people, yet an extra towel, pillow, and shower gel/shampoo packet were not available for the third person. I traveled with elderly parents and let them use the pillows; I ended up waking up with sore shoulderblades and neck every morning. Good thing my mother kept extra shampoo and soap in her travel bag. I love the idea of being green and all, but not at the expense of guests' comfort. I think the hotel should consider the number of people sleeping in the room and equip the room accordingly.
3. To have a phone in the room would be good, if only to reduce long lines at the front desk as guests come up with requests and/or complaints.
During our stay a rather large group had checked in to the same floor as our room and was being incredibly loud -- they screamed at each other from one end of the hallway to the other, called out each other's name the same way, smoked non-stop (the odor seeped through the door/ventilation into our room), and basically acted as brainlessly as apes in the Monkey Forest. Actually, no, those apes would've been embarrassed by these people. I complained the next morning about this but the same behavior repeated that very night.
All in all, I very much recommend the Pop! Harris for those with a budget because the price is great, it's clean, and hospitality is five-star. I do NOT recommend this hotel to honeymooners (your money will be worth it at the many resorts that Jimbaran and Nusa Dua have to offer), family traveling with small children as noise may be an issue when there's large groups in-house, and any leisure travelers expecting crystal-clear pool water and coconut trees swaying above (opt for Jimbaran and Nusa Dua or Seminyak).
Please consider my suggestions above, and keep up the WONDERFUL hospitality!
Room Tip: Ask if there are groups in-house, and if so, request a room far away from them as walls are extremel...

Dear valued guest,
Thank you for your time to share with us your comments and reviews. It is always a pleasure for us to hear any positive input from our guest for a better improvement in the future.
The water dispenser is provided for 24 hours in lobby area with hot and cool water so our guest can take it anytime they need. We found out it is changed with normal - hot water dispenser at the time before your arrival. The issue has been fixed now, we have changed it back to hot and cool water dispenser.
At the moment, we provide the basic facilities for our guest in the room, we will note your comments and discuss it internally with our management team.
Once again, thank you for your valuable comments, we really appreciate it.
We are looking forward welcoming you again in POP! Hotel Teuku Umar Denpasar Bali.
Sincerely yours,
Irene Janti
