“Nice atmosphere away from the beach crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012 via mobile

A single traveller, I booked 3 nights here by email to ther website at US$57 per night, including breakfast. I liked the location at the centre of Denpasar, and the shady grounds (though part of the garden facing Jalan Gajah Mada has been sold and is now occupied by a bank). The hotel has a nice Dutch colonial atmosphere, and there is an army of staff maintaining the place and sweeping up all the fallen leaves. My room (no. 30) was a goods size with a comfortable double bed and ( a bit of a rarity in Indonesia) good bedside lights for reading. The air conditioner was quite old but worked very well, and the cathode ray TV had many cable channels, including BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, CNBC, Australian Network, TV5 in French, Deutsche Welle, NatGeo, Animal Planet, HBO and other movie channels, and others in Spanish, Russian and Chinese. There were tea and coffee making facilities (fill the jug in the bathroom using a glass, as the jug would not fit under the tap) and two glass bottles of drinking water each day. The room was very clean, but The staff did not always replenish the tea bags, coffee or water unless requested. There was a small refrigerator that fortunately was not filled with minibar drinks. The hot water was quite hot, but often took a long time to get hot, and there were plenty of towels and cheap soap. The main issues I had were that the toilet did not always flush well and kept running, wasting a lot of water, but it always did flush eventually after playing with the lever, and the door lock did not look very secure when locking to go out (it was much more secure from inside the room).
The dining area has a nice view of the garden and the pool, and a choice of several breakfast packages, including American, Continental or Indonesian. I had the Indonesian breakfast each day, with very tasty chicken rice porridge (bubur ayam), muesli with plain yoghurt (not very Indonesian), toast and the dreaded pineapple jam, and very good coffee.I had lunch there one day (ayam goreng Kalasan fried chicken and rice), but it was quite a small serving and on other days I had chicken soup (soto ayam) at the Sumber Asih restaurant, about 50m to the left up Jalan Veteran. The staff are friendly and helpful. This hotel is a good choice in Denpasar away from the tourist hordes at Kuta, just don't expect that everything will be immaculate or work properly.

“Just an old hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

This hotel is normal as expected. We chose this one because we thought since we arrived late at night we could take this chance to get some glimpse of Denpasar in the morning before heading to Ubud. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very local but not too bad. However, the room we stayed was quite old, but it was ok as for one night. However, if you want to get a very local atmosphere with some historical memory of the first Indonesian President (Sukarno) who liked to stayed here when he came to Denpasar, it's not bad to stay just for a night! One tip: you may need to bring your bathroom amenities with you.

“not for forign tourists”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

it was my last day in Bali and i thought of treating myself to a nice hotel near the airport.checking in and reception staff all very elegant.when i got to my room which was a poolside one i found out that the sheets on my bed haven't been changed for godness know how long i asked for it to be changed and it took about an hour.the walls are full of dead mosquitoes.and the bathroom was in a state.couldn't use the pool cause it was full of tree leaves and dead insects.breakfast was only Indonesian option available and the waiter said that all the fruits has finished.i ask for a price for a taxi to the airport and the staff gave me a price that was double of the normal price.you would be better off in some other hotel where they know our need and there is plenty of them in Bali

“Hospitality and value plus!!”

Staying in Denpasar instead of Kuta/ Legian/Seminyak always raised a few eyebrows even among enquiring Balinese. However, my wife and I wanted to be around the Balinese rather than tourists. Our choice of the Inna Bali Hotel in central Denpasar proved fortuitous. The management was courteous and interested in our opinions despite hosting a huge Indonesian Conference for the PKA.
The "Inna Bali Special" consisted of: an unexpected upgrade to a Presidential suite for 2 nights, a complimentary 3 course meal in the restaurant, an absolutely magical reflexology massage (90 minutes), a late 4.00 PM checkout and a dropoff at Denpasar Airport. The manager said he was pleased to offer this deal ( the room may still be a Superior Room) to future tourists so my advice is to use Denpasar as a last stop, see the museum and markets and take a day trip to Tanah Lot, Kuta and a beach stop at Seminyak. A late arvo taxi trip to Sanur is pleasant too for an evening meal.
