“Small Boutique Hotel (only 80 rooms)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Here is my conclusion first then you can read the rest, its a long review and hope it helps.
"I would come here again because it is so quite with facilities in a small hotel".

OK, firstly I hate BIG HOTELS, you know the ones. kids dragging chairs across the floor in the room above you at 6am or groups of people coming home after a night of partying at 3am slamming doors etc in the rooms around you. I always try and book single storey villa style accomodation.

The Alam Kul Kul is one such style like that. Before I came I read the reviews and was put off by a number of reviewers who said "noise from construction next door", (that hotel is now finished) or "mad smell in the room", or "leaks", or etc. Well...... I booked an Alam Villa (all with private outdoor bathroom). Before I collected the keys I asked to have a look at a few of the available villas in my category, they all had outdoor/indoor bathrooms with big bath. One of the rooms DID have a musty smell the other two where great. Then we were shown The JAVA VILLA, this was awesome with a BIG indoor/outdoor bathroom with direct access to your own (small) private plunge pool in your own private courtyard. It was fantastic but they wanted $345USD. I said "No way". Never so no...... I finished up negotiating a great deal on this room (only $20USD per night extra, they originally wanted $60USD/night extra).
This room was an absolute highlight of our stay. Skinny dipping when ever you want!!

Anyway obviously I'd stay again.

The negatives?
The breakfast was adeqaute and simple. The usual, noodles, eggs, toast fruits etc
Mosquitoes? HEAPS!!!! bring plenty of repelant.
There are two pools, the small pool is tiny and the main pool is still bloody small. So if your after big pool in your hotel, this is not for you.
The Hotel is located opposite the beach on a one way street. Getting to and from your hotel in a taxi is a nightmare because of this road netwoork. Its quicker to walk to the street in your direction of travel first then catch a taxi first. This actually put me off the location.

All in all the hotel was great and I would stay again. Oh did I tell you about tne BLOODY Mossies!!! Buggers!

Room Tip: Book a Lanai room or Alam Villa because they the club benefits (free drinks/snacks 10am-7pm)

“Beautiful gardens, great location, clean, quiet, excellent staff, good value for money.”

We spent 8 nights at AlamKulKul and loved it. We had a family room (Room 2210) and my teenaged daughter thought that the curtains that separated our area from her bed was great - gave her some privacy. The staff were most courteous and helpful, smiling all the time. I loved the beautiful tropical gardens and pool, it creates a tropical oasis in busy Kuta. The staff were very helpful and obliging and made our stay very pleasant. Nyoman Sudiyasa at Reception was the best. I had a bandaged arm and he carefully "clingwrapped" my arm every evening with clingwrap from the kitchen to enable me to shower without getting it wet. That is excellent service. Thank you Sudiyasa. Buffet breakfast was a mixture of east and west and a very good spread too. We had a complimentary BBQ buffet dinner on the first night with a balinese performance, which was very entertaining. I have been to Bali 6 times and I like the location (not far from Legian and without the Legian hotel prices). It is walking distance to the Legian shops and also Seminyak. The hotel is good value for money - great location, clean rooms, absolutely fantastic gardens and pool. Our room attendant, Nyoman Sunarma left us a good bye note, wishing us well before we departed. It was a very nice gesture and very much appreciated. He was very attentive to our needs, especially when my daughter was sick and he had to come in to clean it all up. He did an excellent job and our room and bathroom was always spotless. Well done to the Management at AlamKulKul who holds a Friday night drinks - it is a very nice gesture and much appreciated. I doubt many other hotels do that. I am impressed by the level of communication, both verbal and written at the hotel. Overall, we are happy to have chosen the AlamKulKul Boutique Resort and hope they keep up the level of service. A hotel I would return to stay when I next visit Bali.

Room Tip: If you have children, a family room is great. 2 individual beds for the kids and a curtain separates...

“good location”

we stayed as a family and my husband and i got upgraded to the lanai room on arrival which was very nice. Our son, daughter and nephew (17, 20 and 25 ) shared a quad room, also very nice but the electricity kept going off and therefore they didn't have electricity for some of the time. They tried to fix it but it kept going off which was annoying because they would have slept better with the airconditiong on. Nevertheless, the place was clean, the grounds quiet, and the pool lovely. Nice short stroll to jalan melasti street and also garlic lane where there are lots of nice bars, shops and restaurants. Overall i would recommend this hotel.

“Nice hotel, friendly staff but noisy bogans a shame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 12 nights and enjoyed coming back to our clean, cool room after being out in the hustle and bustle of Bali all day. Staff were helpful and friendly but it was a bit off-putting to be asked for a tip by the room cleaning guy after about four days and again the day before we left. While we were happy to tip, it was a bit awkward to be asked for one. The other two issues were the Australian bogans who got drunk around the pool most nights and getting a wake up call from reception at 5.30am instead of 6.30am. For the rest though, the hotel is good value and in a good location although next time I would prefer Seminyak, Kerobokan or Sanur.

Room Tip: Best to get a room overlooking a pool

“Peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Just returned from spending 5 days at AlamKulKul and I will certainly go back. This resort was so close to the Kuta hub and yet was a peaceful tranquil haven to return to at night. The villa we stayed in was beautifully appointed and clean. The staff friendly prompt and helpful.
The individual villas featured beautiful traditional Balinese decor(and a thatched roof). The resort is set in beautiful well-maintained gardens.
The breakfast buffet was delicious and featured both East and West cuisine.
The coffee lounge and bar opened early so for lovers of a coffee...... a great way to start the day.
The restaurant attached to the resort served amazing food and cheap fresh fruit cocktails. You have got to try the chocolate cake(for which they won a prize) and the volcano pizza!!!!
I am a 50 something woman and this resort had absolutely everything I could have dreamed of !! I was able to just cross the road and walk each morning on the beach, have my coffee on the balcony, walk to Kuta for shopping or opt for the RP10000 scooter ride, swim and laze by the pool when shopping got too much and just relax in the most tranquil gardens surrounding the resort. On the down side if there is to be one....there were lots of mosquitoes so keeping doors closed was important to stop their influx.....
I loved my stay here and I highly recommend this resort.
Thank-you to the staff for making my stay extremely enjoyable.
