This was the first hotel we stayed at in Bali and we were not disappointed. The location is excellent right in the middle of Sanur on one of the best parts of the beach. Easy walking distance to some good resturants (I highly recommend the cafe at flashbacks which is just across the street) and stores for whatever you need. We thought about staying at the Hyatt but after walking down and checking it out we were very glad we chose the Griya instead. The room was cozy and the balcony overlooked the pool. The big pool. There are 3 on the property. The pool is right on the beach and has a swim up bar if you're so inclined. No wifi in the room but it is in the lobby and gallery area and there are a few computers to use to get online as well.
The food was good, not great but there are many resturants around. The staff was not as helpful as one would like but they were in no way mean.
The little spa in the middle was nice and the ladies that work there were delightful. The Bali spice massage and scrub was totally relaxing and left my hairy body felling baby smooth.
We walked almost the entire beach walkway in both directions and the beach out front of the Griya was definitely one of, if not the best beach in Sanur. We had planned to take a paddle board/surf lesson and when our instructor came to pick us up he said we should do it right there since it was a great place to do it.
We will stay here again next time we are in Sanur.

“On the beach and nice pools”

i spent one night in the garden room. however i was on the second floor and was struggling with a sore knee. i requested to be moved to ground level. after a bit of discussion i was offered to be moved to the beach wing at no extra cost. i was very happy with this. i really liked the way the hotel just seemed to spread to the water with no boundaries. it was cosy and relaxing. surprisingly i ran into aquaintances having lunch at the hotel. they said they chose this hotel after bike riding along the beach but it was booked out...well that's a compliment. i went across to an island for 2 days and the staff looked after my suitcase. they also reserved a room for me to return to. they will organise drivers taxis etc so i didnt have to go out on the street and haggle.
Travel tip : I brought boxes of chocolates (favourites) from sydney airport. Now and then I would share with staff. they loved it. just remember to put in taxi from airport so they dont melt in the boot. and into airconditioned room.

“Great place to stay”

Love staying at here. Last year was my 4th stay in this hotel. Going again March this year for a mother/daughter holiday and cant wait. The staff are very friendly...from the receptionist to the bar staff to the cleaners. Did not come across one person who was rude or unhelpful.
The Balinese are fantastic people and this place just enhances how great they are.
The atmosphere is very relaxing. Have stayed in the garden rooms, deluxe rooms and beach wing. Definitely worth paying the little extra to go up near the beach. Last year my mother and I were upgraded to Beach wing rooms and loved it. This year we have paid to be up there again....didnt want to risk not being up there. The rooms are very spacious and well maintained, and being close to the pool/beach and bar is a bonus.
Not worth paying for breakfast in the hotel. Can be a bit expensive compared to other places close by to eat. We tended to have breakfast in our room (Hardy's is just up the road to buy breakie supplies).
The Pizza's at Beach Corner are the best. I am not normally a pizza eater but these are yummy and great value.
We hired bikes for the week and were able to keep them in the bike parking bays.
Overall would definitely recommend this place,

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a beach wing or deluxe up near the beach if possible.

“Poor Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed at the Griya for three nights last week. The grounds were nice. Our room which was a deluxe beach room was horrible. The bathroom was black and dark. The sink was weird and the lotion they leave in the room had residual crusty lotion from another guest eewww! The light was out over the sink when we first arrived. The safe did not work. The room was filled with mosquitos when we arrived. All of these things we addressed with the office and were corrected. It is just a first impression that was not a good one for us, especially at over $200 per night. This hotel was not up to par at all.
The man at reception was completely clueless. Anything we asked was either not answered or given a strange answer. I'm not sure that the language difference was the issue. I just think the guy was lazy.
My husband had purchased a Bintang from the Circle K and needed a bottle opener. The front desk was completely unhelpful and told us that we needed to walk down to the bar to get the opener and they would not bring it to our room. Not very good service.
Overall, we will never ever recommend this hotel to anyone nor would we ever stay here again. I'm sure there are alot nicer less expensive hotels in Sanur. If I had to describe this hotel in two words it would be "Overpriced UCK"!
