“pleasant experience”

My family and I stayed here for only 2 nights recently but were really happy with the room, the restaurant, the location and the friendly staff. A very nice, well shaded main pool with a more secluded pool off to one side were clean and well maintaned, a lovely place to sit and watch the ocean which was only a few metres away.
If I had one gripe it would be that breakfasts were a bit disappointing but by that point in our 10 day trip I was over having a large breakfast everyday. I think if I had stayed at only this hotel I would have rated this hotel lower.
All in all, a nice hotel, well serviced and worthy of anyone seeking a bit of a different experience in Bali away from Kuta, Tuban etc.

“value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Always stay in Tuban and this was the first time in Sanur. I really loved Sanur but think that 5 days there was enough for me.
The Besakih was great value for money for beach front accommadation. I found the breakfast adequate and was glad I could then enjoy lunch at one of the many little cafes along the beach (because I did not eat too much at breakfast)
The rooms were good for the price, we had a superior room but the bathroom was a little tired, the only difference between the standard and the superior room was that the superior was stand alone and the standard had a better bathroom for less cost per night
I found the housekeeping staff very friendly but could not even get a smile out of the reception staff
The Besakih was very quiet and peaceful and at the time of our stay there were a group of elderly Europeans staying there for 2 months. The kids found it hilarious that the first things we saw on arrival at the hotel were a gopher and a walking frame.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor standard room

“Besakih, Sanur”

Stayed for 2 weeks in January 2012, the pool was good but no cleaners picking up guests leftovers for hours on end, food made us sick the first time we ate in the restuarant, breakfast is the same everyday how many different ways can you have eggs, toast with 2 strips of bacon. There was no traditional Balinese dance as advertised on there website. The pool table is a mess and not maintained. Betsy the dog is cool if you like dogs. Turtles in the pond are cool.View from the pool of the ocean is very cool, rooms are a little run down, bathrooms needs a more thorough overhaul and better daily cleaning. Cleaning staff are very good with what they are presented with. The owners need to have a good look at themselves to produce a long term plan upgrade and maintain the rooms. There are plenty of old 65+ european people stay here, Its got that semi senior citizens home feel about it.Beware of some of the staff if they asked to organise a day trip somewhere, they are only after a cut. Make sure you have a car key hanging around your neck when going outside the front gate so you can shut down the hawkers hassling you for transport constantly. If you do get transport, get it a couple of hundred metres away from the front gate or they will hassle you and make you feel obligated to use them every time you walk outside the gate. All in all I would not stay here again Griya Santrian next door it is much cleaner, more modern has better quality food, 2 restuarants, bar at the pool which overlooks the ocean. It may cost abit more but after checking out the rooms and facilities there you would be much better off staying there.

Room Tip: room 234 and 236 are joined and definately the go

“Great people and great value”

We are staying here in late January. The service has been fabulous. Reception was very helpful when we needed to book a couple of private tours. There are two lovely pools that look over the beach and you literally step out the back of the hotel and on to the sand. We are traveling with our 10 month old baby and they have been delightful with her. The cot that they supplied is great. My only criticisms are that the bathrooms are a bit tired and the breakfast is pretty basic, even though it was included with our room we have wound up eating breakfast at other cafes.
We have a second floor room and the best part by far is the balcony which is so private that you could walk out without clothes and no one would see you. Will definitely come again.

“an undecided review (restaurant only)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

An undecided review:
The location is fabulous, the food is mostly good, sometimes excellent and sometimes hopeless. The whole place is a bit tired (10 years ago it was top of the bill at Sanur Beach) and some of the staff are also very tired. So it can go both ways.
We were lucky, the food was good and the waiter woke up after a very, very slow start (15 minutes) and became very friendly.
I wouldn’t go for the too fancy dishes, they are not bad, but you can see and taste the chef's struggle, but the Balinese/Indonesian food is very good as are the Australian orientated specials.
Being undecided also goes for the decision whether to go for lunch or for dinner:
If you go at night: it's very romantic and you don’t see the tired spots and the need to do some renovations. But on the other hand, you will miss the beautiful layout and almost breathtaking view over the sea. You will probably have to go twice to make up your own mind.
