“Calm and comfortable Bali bungalows”

We live in Bali and I always tell people to stay here first to relax after the long flight and ease into the slower pace of Bali. Cute rooms, ask for a room in the white buildings which have large private terraces/ porches.

“Fell in love with Hotel La Taverna!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

I travelled with my husband and two kids. We had a family room, which consisted of two rooms separated by the bathroom. There was a large step in the kids bedroom, which might be a problem if you had small kids. There was also a large balcony which was great.
The breakfasts were fantastic, by the pool overlooking the beach.
My only complaint was the smell from the toliet was horrid. When I mentioned it to staff were were told they were fully booked and we couldn't change rooms.I moved a freshener from the bedroom to the bathroom, and we purchased rose scented fly spray from Circle K for the mossies wich also helped.
We didn't eat dinner or lunch at the hotel. We ate many times at Bonsai Cafe and Bennos which are just nearby on the beach. Circle K is next door, the one on road side (not the beach) has an ATM.
We also did a cooking classd at the hotel. A little exe, but perfect for us as we have small kids. It turned out to be just hubby and I, so it was a personal class with the chef, and the food was yummy!
This was our first visit to Sanur. It was businer than I expected, nothting like Kuta of course, but stell lot's of people around and lot's happening. There was also quite a breeze from the ocean so make sure you take long pants and a long top for night time!

“Good for what it is”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I guess I can understand the other reviews and if I was to compare it with the hotels that followed our La Taverna stay (Warwick Ibah in Ubud and Jeeva Klui Lombok) then it was inferior, but it isnt pitched as 5 star luxury so we were quite satisfied. Its on the beach, has a nice pool and restaurant area, has the usual polite, excellent service. Our room was rustic (in a nice way), clean and fautless apart from toilet plumbing and potential for mozzies through airvents (but was not a problem). The grounds were beautiful, meals good, although as with other hotels, food and drinks pricey. This was our second stay in Bali and we probably will avoid beaches altogether next time to avoid hagglers and the inevitable comparisons to Australian beaches. I would recommend it, particularly for seasoned travellers who want some degree of authentic accom. rather than me- too international and are not quick to whinge.

“Surroundings - great, but not all rooms are equal.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

On the positive side, the siting and the grounds are excellent, but superior rooms are of a standard quality (interiors are good but some outside sitting areas are not great) and not all deluxe rooms are equal. Rooms 31 and 32 (deluxe) are the best choice and in Junior Suites No. 41. Pool looks great, but is not toddler, non swimmer or elderly friendly (deep steps and and no shallow end). However, beach in front of hotel is free of vendors and because there is a reef, excellent for paddling, gentle swimming and snorkling. Very child friendly beach. There is a bicycle path along the beach, lots of choices in restaurants and a market nearby (there is a also a convenience store closeby for cheap drinks to put in your refrigerator ). Don't know what else is around, but I would do some investigating before I booked. I would go back, but I would upgrade from Superior and choose my room carefully.

“This is expensive for what it is”

I get the idea, faded glory. But the service wasnt the best. We had cockroaches in the bedroom which wasnt the best start either. I realise this is the stuff of hot countries but the staff said maintenace wasnt what it should be, and I would agree.

Most of the frontage is taken up by the resturant. hence the pool area is small and often people have bagged sunbeds wiith towels which arent removed by staff even after several hours. Other hotels just along had much nicer beach frontages. Breakfast was pretty poor. Also the rooms felt on top of each other. I think the upstairs rooms may have more privacy. I think the south end of Sanur is nicer.
We spent time in the middle and then north of Bali, both were much better. I would give Sanur a miss. The north is beautiful, and much better value for money.

So sadly disappointing.
