The Ari Putri Hotel is well located in Bali with many, many restaurants of all kinds, shops and shops galore, and plenty of motor vehicles on the narrow street that runs by the front of the hotel. The hotel architecture is pure Balinese, quite a nice sight when ones first arrives at the hotel.
Check-in was very smooth, quick and efficient. The receptionist was extremely friendly. A barefoot porter took my bag, and I followed him to him room on the ground floor. The first thing I noticed was the cozy balcony with a large table, two cushy bamboo chairs, and a drying rack – quite a nice touch.
The room had a double bed, telephone, luggage rack, table and chairs, color TV with satellite (CNN and BBC), air-conditioning with a remote control. The room was a bit dark and showed some age, but it was okay for me. An attached bathroom was equipped with a tub, shower, sink and plenty of soap and shampoo. The hotel has free WiFi and, luckily, I was able to access from my room. Otherwise, one goes to the bar where there is a free WiFi “hotspot.”
Just a few steps from my room was a beautiful, but somewhat small swimming pool with lots of garden vegetation surrounding it. There were about a dozen lounge chairs on one side of the pool, and a small sunken bar as well. One had to get up early, however, to grab one of those lounge chairs; I stayed for three days and never got one. Many European visitors stay at this hotel for months and months during the winter, and they get first dibs on those chairs, so get up early and grab one, throw a towel with a makeshift reserve sign (write your name and room number on it), and then you’ll be all set.
The breakfast (included) was good, certainly not the Hyatt Regency layout, but adequate: eggs to order, fried potatoes, croissants with butter and jam, toast, fruit (pineapple, watermelon, papaya), tea and/or coffee. It was all good and quite filling (I had seconds).
The Ari Putri is not a romantic place for honeymooners, but it was adequate, efficient, fairly clean, with a friendly staff. The price was right: $34 in low season (September 1 to December 19 for a single or double, including breakfast.
