i and my friend stayed in Majapahit hotel for 6 nights in Nov. .
the rooms are perfect and big .the staff are excellent and very helpfull . Buffet breakfast had a wide range for different tastes .

We stayed at Hotel Majapahit for 5 nights while we were in town for business. The hotel has spacious rooms around several beautifully maintained gardens. The staff is excellent - very knowledgeable and helpful. Pool is secluded. Gym is good. Has spa but did not have time to use it. Big breakfast buffet in the Indigo restaurant. If you like ambience and not another cookie-cutter 5 star hotel, this is the place for you in Surabaya. Wish there were more hotels like this.

Spent three nights here in January. Built in 1910 by the Sarkies Brothers of Raffles fame. Was given an upgrade to a suite for Rp200k a night extra. Service was good, staff are friendly and liked the ambience. Worth a visit if you like colonial styled hotels.

This is an excellent property, and unfortunately it is no longer managed by Mandarin Oriental- it has the potential to be one of the best colonial style hotels in Asia, but probably does not get enough turnover at the moment.

I hope the current owners do not spoil this property by trying to "modernise" it.

Sometimes there is a live band in the lobby- ask them to play some traditional or patriotic Indonesian music, they are very good at this and you will not find many other opportunities these days to get a taste of the old secular Indonesia that is fast disappearing thanks to religious intolerance.

Good room rates are available if you book with one of the hotel counters found at all the major Indonesian airports. This requires cash payment up front in exchange for a coupon, but you will get a substantial saving over a direct booking with the hotel.

If you have a sense of history, I recommend staying here when in Surabaya.
