This was our 4th visit to Sofitel Phokeethra Krabi and it is easy to see they have lifted this resort to another level, if that was at all possible.
The Check In: The foyer is a sight to behold and is quite grand. A really smooth check in with welcome drinks and cold towels, as you would expect from a 5 star hotel. I did like the modern technology touch by signing the iPad and I was told this is to save paper/environment. Then we were greeted by the Guest Services Manager and not long after the General Manager, Robin, and Resident Manager, David, gave us the warmest of welcomes and it was like catching up with old friends. We were escorted to our rooms by the reception manager and our baggage not far behind.
This was low season and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to the Opera Suite. Low season pretty much means you have the resort to yourself, but the trade off is the unpredictable weather of the rainy season.
The Room: Consisted of a lounge room, a bedroom and very large bathroom. The Opera Suite has direct access to the pool. There has been several improvements since my last visit back in Novemebr 2011. Most noticeably wifi internet, although not free it's a reasonable price per day, 235 THB I think, and the flatscreen tv's with several cable channels available (not Australia TV though). The bed was comfortable and the minibar was well stocked. Hermes toiletries are also a nice touch.
The Facilities: This place has everything you need if you just want a resort holiday. The most amazing pool with swim up bar, library for kicking back and relaxing, a great happy hour in the bar which has a nice atmosphere to it, a well equipped gym and even a Pilates and Fitball studio. The Spa Complex has a very relaxing ambience to it and the new spa menu is a great addition to the resort. We had the couples package with included a 30 minute aromatherapy bath, 60 minute massage and a 90 minute facial. Finished of by relaxing with cookies and tea. Well worth the money based on the quality of products, tranquility of the surroundings and expertise of the staff.
The Food: I've never really had any problems with the food at the Sofitel, it has always been of a very high standard. Breakfast is an above average buffet with egg station, pastry/danish station, salad station, meat/deli station, asian station and juice station as well as sausages, bacon, hash browns and baked beans. Cocktails at the bar were amazing and the complimentary nibbles were a nice touch.
The Location: If you are looking for a resort holiday, swimming and laying by the pool and don't have any plan in moving from the resort then this place is where you want to stay. Ao Nang is only a 15-20 minute drive away and costs about 500 THB one way per taxi. I was aware of this when I booked so it wasn't really an issue.
The Service: I found the service here to be of the highest standard and what you would expect from a Sofitel. You almost feel as if you are part of the Sofitel family.
There is no doubt whatsoever I will return. Sooner rather than later.
