“Luxurious getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2012

Stayed here for a night on 29th December 2011 and booked the stay via their main website. Arrived from Tokyo to Odawara via the shinkasen and took the hotel shuttle to the resort. Mind you, that you need to reserve your seats in the shuttle before boarding (especially during peak season) as there are limited seats in the shuttle. However, once can always chance it (I reserved mine via email). The journey from Odawara station took approximately 45 minutes to the resort and you will pass the main town of the Hakone. Arrived earlier than the check-in time, so you can just leave your bags around and then visit some of the nearby attractions, such as the ropeway, aquarium, etc. By being the guest, you will receive a pass that allows you to go to the ropeway, aquarium and ferry for free. The resort is located in a very scenic and private area of the lake, thus making it a very romantic getaway for myself and wife. As guests of the resort, you can also use the onsen (hot bath) for free (though you have to pay a very small amount for bath tax when you check-out). Quite an interesting experience especially for first-timers :) Took the room package with breakfast, but if given the choice again, I would rather skip this. There are plenty of food nearby, but will be slightly pricier than the town. On the whole, I would recommend this to all couples and those with families, but not for singles or group of friends.

Room Tip: Selecting a room with a view to Mt. Fuji will set you back 40-50% more expensive than the regular ro...

“Lovely setting, but isolated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We got a huge room in their so called annex, as we were a family of 4. We had 4 large twin size beds each, with plenty of room, a table and chairs, big bathroom and separate toilet. The room was clean and comfortable. small fridge and tea/coffee maker. The hotel's onsen was really great, with indoor and outdoor hot pools, however male and female are separated. The lobby and hallways of the annex were dated and sparse, but the room certainly worth it. The main cylindrical building was older but had a feeling that it was probably quite exclusive in it's day. The setting is lovely, right on the lake, with good view of Mt Fuji, if the weather is clear. The shops and restaurants nearby are only open from about 10am-3/4pm, and I'd read the hotel restaurant was v. expensive. Getting to and from the hotel isn't the easiest. There's a bus to Moto Hakone ($4adults), or taxi at $16. The buses stop around 2.30pm. Moto Hakone and at the other end, Togendai Ko, are small, and have few restaurants, even in the evening, so eating lunch, and making sure you bring something back to eat in the room (or pay alot at the hotel restaurant) is recommended. If it wasn't for the isolated location I would highly recommend the hotel, but getting back in the evening was difficult. One evening we managed to get a taxi from Moto H. with food bought at 7/11. The next evening we got into Togendai Ko, managed to find one tiny restaurant open, but not taxi's available. We were lucky enough the restaurant guy offered to drive us back as we were obviously stuck. So even if you're prepared to pay for taxi's they aren't always available. However, the hotel does offer a couple of shuttles to and from Odaware station which is great, but book in advance as I've heard they can get booked up. It's a shame they can't offer a few shuttles from Moto Hakone, then this hotel would be easier for me to recommend to others.

“Lovely hotel but nit a great location for the Hakone pass”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011 via mobile

We booked two nights and found out time ruined by torrential rain (no one's fault obviously).

Had we tried to use the Hakone pass we had bought in Tokyo it would have been a challenge as the boat and rope car from beside the hotel were not included and neither were most of the buses that went by the hotel. If you stay at this hotel don't bother with the pass and pay as you go.

The rooms are large and very comfortable. The Japanese bath house is delightful.

Eating at the hotel is VERY expensive but good quality. They appeared annoyed that we did not book for dinner and kept has waiting for nearly half an hour to get a table in a half full donning room.

Watch out if you want to eat late. We went to bed hungry as we triedto eat at 8.30pm one night!

“Wonderful location and onsen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

The hotel is in a beautiful location and we took advantage of the Togendai ropeway and Kamagotake Cable car to hike along the mountain paths at the top. The onsen had indoor and outdoor pools (for each gender) and were wonderfully relaxing (there are instructions available about the proper etiquette for using onsens if you've never been to one before). The restaurants in the hotel are pricey at the present exchange rate, and the quality of the food was good. We took a taxi to Moto Hakone, the nearest village to the hotel, for a pizza dinner one night - the taxi cost 1200 yen (one way) and dinner (2 pizzas, 1 bottle of wine) cost 7000 yen, so even eating in restaurant outside of the restaurant complex is expensive. On a clear day the views of Mount Fuji from the hotel are breathtaking.
