We wanted a romantic start to our Tokyo trip in Oct 2011, so we decided to splurge a bit on a good ryokan. We were hugely disappointed.
1) Inconvenient transport - On the map, it was just 5 minutes walk from Hakone-en, but there was a huge lack of transport to this station, with only 1 bus that runs here, and the last bus reaches this station at 5.10pm! This means that, if you don't drive, you will be stuck in the hotel. We stayed here for 1 day, but most of our time were spent on transport instead of the sights.
2) Overpriced - We should have stuck to our original plan of a much more centrally located ryokan instead of trying this out.
The view was good, but seriously, that was about all we could get out of the ryokan. Having stayed in various hotels in more than 7 countries in the past 3 years, this is the first and only hotel that I regretted booking.
