A wonderful experience of old world elegance, professional staff and great location in the scenic Hakone (Mt. Fuji) area

Even though it is almost a year since I have stayed in this hotel, I am still at a loss for words. I really love this place. It was beautiful and historic. The staff was wonderful and courteous. It was just perfect!

I reserved a room through email which was immediately answered. We arrived in Fujiya around 6PM already because we had to wait for the bus to drop us there. The reception was very helpful and I happily discovered that we were upgraded from a Standard Double to a Deluxe Twin room! How great was that? :)

The room was very big. There was a huge TV and a seating area. The bathroom was spacious with a nice tub. Bathroom amenities were rose-scented and were all so elegant.

My brother and I wanted to try their onsens in the basements but because it was getting pretty late, we opted not to anymore. They also have a heated pool inside. We spent the night going around the hotel and visiting their museum. They also displayed notes from the famous people who stayed there. I was excited to see Albert Einstein and Helen Keller's messages. I really felt that I was in a very historical place. :)

The next day, we had breakfast at their main dining room. The choices were so-so, except for their croissant! It was delicious! We even bought some home for our mom. We also bought pure maple syrup for our other brother.

After breakfast, we explored their gardens. They were beautiful to say the least. The koi ponds were full of big Golden Carps and the flowers were breathtaking. Everything was just.. PERFECT.

Overall, excellent! It would be a big loss if you visit Hakone and not stay here. Five stars!

This hotel is well-established. The service excels. I enjoyed the old and creaky floors with historical pictures and design qualities. The room was peaceful. Bathrooms have hot spring water pumped to the bathtubs creating divine relaxation. There is an old feel to the room we stayed in and the hallways and lobby in general. I loved that feel because to me no sacrifice was made. Our only inconvenience was that my partner had to go to the lobby to use wireless internet service for some work. The Fujiya smells wonderful! We witnessed some lovely Japanese couples celebrating their marriages. The gardens are well cared for and the town is very welcoming. I would like to stay here again.
