“Great location, nice decoration”

I chose this hotel based on reviews from tripadvisor and we didn't regret it. The stay was just for 1 night and the staff were helpful and friendly. The location is great for us as we intended to eat at some recommended restaurants around that area and also to squeeze in a visit to Tebrau City Jusco.

We booked 2 mini boutique rooms and they were large, clean and comfortable. The mattress was slightly lumpy but still acceptable. I liked it that the bathroom and toilet were separate and the rooms had a large washing area.

Getting around is easy. We could hail a cab from the nearby Sutera Mall (plenty of cabs lined up waiting) to where we wanted to go. To get back home is even easier for us. We took a Causeway Link bus (www.causewaylink.com.my) from behind Sutera Mall (you have to get out from the mall towards the car park and should be able to see the distinctive yellow colored bus) directly to Jurong East Interchange. The bus trip took around an hour. There was a short 10 minutes stop at Gelang Petai to pick up passengers.

“Friendly staff, unfriendly manager”

My stay was long - about two weeks. Initial impression was good. The place is very new with funky, colorful decor. Staff at the front desk were friendly. Immediately one would understand it doesnt take much, just a little discipline and maintenance, to out-rank the other bigger but miserably maintained hotels in Johor Bahru.

I stayed in the Superior and also Mini-boutique rooms, and also had a look at the Hanging-Bed room. The rooms and attached toilets are clean. However, furniture is lacking. The desk is nothing more than the size of a coffee table and there are no refrigerators. I guess if one is staying for one night, it is not really a problem. But if you are staying longer, many items will end up being placed on the floor which makes the whole room really cluttered and messy. Walls are thin. I could hear the snoring of my neighbours at night.

Internet is at best slow, at worse non-existant.

If you are someone who is subject to an unpredictable schedule and require changes to your booking, it is best that you inform the frontdesk early. The hotel does not entertain requests for unique cases or waivers. The manager, perhaps the owner given his hard stance, told me bluntly to my face that conditions were told to me beforehand and so made a disclaimer that I was the one at fault and there was nothing they would or could do. I have to say that this chinese manager was professional and went "by the book", but lacked a personal touch and his method of delivery would leave a rather unpleasant bitter taste in the mouth of any customer.

Take note - if you cancel your booking, you will have to pay 50 ringgit and the balance would be paid to you through a cheque. If you are singaporean, this poses as a problem because if you encash this cheque at a singapore bank, you will have to endure the malaysian public bank exchange rate, commision charges from both malaysian and singaporean banks and also a postage charge. At this rate, if your booking is one-two days, you might as well just forfeit the money.

All in all, the stay was fine. I guess one cannot expect more from a budget hotel. Although I have to say, initially i was thinking to myself that this hotel is too good to be true, but in end it is not.

Room Tip: Do not choose design rooms if you need a window because design rooms have no windows.

“average standard but funky deco”

bathroom was not that clean when we 1st checked in. had to change towel as found hair on it even though its new. floor was quite dusty. the pillows are hard and nice to slp wif. however from 12am to 230am i could hear kids running outside the rooms or ppl opened and close doors roughly. location is near to many restaurants and cafe.

“Clean place, great value and loads of food places around.”

The rooms are clean, the staff there are friendly, have wifi, lcd screen tv and great tv selections too! I love the deco of the place. There are many shops ALL around, with cafes, restaurant, a mall, clothes shops, foot reflexology centres, and massage centres (they are not dodgy looking). I like J Hotel so much so that for business trips, i will usually book at this hotel if it's not too far away from my client's place.

There is a cheap and nice Japanese restaurant just around the corner, at the back row of the hotel. Walk to the left of the hotel, and go to the back row. It's always packed, so go earlier if you do not like to wait. One of the best I've eaten!

Only downside about here is that there is no breakfast provided, so you need to stock up on your food as the eating shops do not open so early in the morning.

Definitely recommend this place for a short stay!

“Value for money, good location”

A friend recommended this hotel to us. Great location, walking distance from Sutera Mall.
We stayed in the Mini-boutique room which is spacious and clean. Unique & interesting room. The staffs there are very friendly and helpful. There are a few restaurants around, prices of the food in the restaurants are reasonable.

The cons are: No bathtubs. As mentioned by other reviewers, the pillows are relatively hard.
