“Good location but overall, everything else is detoriating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Been staying at this property for many times already. Good location as previously stated however, everything else is detoriating. From reception to service to rooms. Its a matter of time they will lose the current business when the new KSL Hotel opens up...

Reception Check-in: No smile, no genuine friendliness. As a frequent guest, I assume they should at least afford some smile as they have everything on record (as they still have got my car licence number) I don't expect them to bow, but at least genuine service please. And also, I used to park at the main driveway lots. But on my day of arrival, the security guard did not allow me to park. I parked at the general lots behind (which is something I try to avoid for fear of safety) and then went to enquire at the counter during check-in. A whole lot of reasons were given which just didn't make sense. So its a case of pathetic explanation.

Rooms: Having stayed many times before, I know how the layout of the hotel is so I asked for a higher floor and away from the generator which tends to be noisy at night and also gave a very yucky view of dirty conditions. This was highlighted when I did an e-booking. However, when I went to the room, I was given a 6th floor and with the generator just outside the window! I immediately went down and asked for a change highlighting the reasons. I asked for one that faces the open streets instead. I as given the new key, went up to room and was given now a 7th floor on the other side and with the generator just below my window. Yes, I can see a patch of the open street from the corner of the window. I did not bother going down saying how senseless the reception staff was.

Some other things in the room worth mentioning:
Safe box was locked prior to check-in.. meaning housekeeping did not do a thorough check.
Flooring was broken in pieces and not fixed
Air-con was not operating optimally

I avoided breakfast due to previous experiences of poor quality standards. Not sure if it any changes now.

Overall, I will still consider staying in view of location but if there are other new options, I will not hesitate to change.

“Great location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Maybe the admin for tripadvisor should change the name of the hotel - it is now known as 11@century.

Pros:
Great location - just opposite the KSL city shopping mall. Lots of nice restaurants like tea garden and tang sifu. The wanton mee behind the hotel opposite the gas station is worth the long wait ( half an hour to 1 hour) and operates only till 2pm and is closed on Tues. The main reason for my stay at 11@century is the pasar malam which operates on every Monday stretching from KSL to Grand Paragon Hotel.

Room service was also prompt - our request for hair dryer, tissue box etc are attended to promptly.

We stayed in the same hotel in March and was given a room on the 7th floor. This time round the room is much better on the 9th floor facing KSL. The deluxe room which we stayed in is quite spacious and has a fridge and safebox.

I am also please that the hotel offer free Wi-fi though the speed can be quite slow.

The staff are all very friendly and allowed us to check in late.

The price is very competitive and we booked on line for $165 nett per day - without all the ++..

Cons:
There are only 2 lifts and are extremely slow.
Limited supply of breakfast. (only took once and disappointed with the diluted coffee)
Definitely need to improve on room service - we ordered the penang kway tiao and it tasted awful.

“Location, Location, Location”

This hotel is badly run. The management survives on repeated business by the local police somehow. The only thing the hotel has going for it is their location. Right next to KSL, but I expect their business to suffer when KSL hotel opens for business.

The room is basic. Bed is comfortable with 4 pillows of decent size and fluffiness. Wifi is ok depending on which part of the building you are at. Breakfast is basic, you can have a better meal across the street at KSL.

“Iffy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

We booked a room online before driving from Singapore, but when we got to the hotel despite jam at causeway, they said they've not received notification of our booking. Had to wait in hotel lobby while they get everything sorted out. Noticed that aircon is leaking causing wet patch on floor of lobby.

Lift is slow, decided to walk up stairs, noticed ciggarette burns on carpeting, stair well is not well lit. Room has ciggarette smell, shower stall has mould and mildew in corners, found hair around bathroom floor and there's no floor mat provided.

Bed is hard and can hear loud music/singing from disco/ktv nearby till wee hours of the morning. My friend slept ok, but I'm a light sleeper and had a very bad night. Limited channels on TV, did not try out the WIFI or breakfast.

Location is great if no transport as there's plenty of places for food nearby and KSL is in walking distance. But if you drive, be prepared to pay RM$5/day, which they will refund on check-out, which I find a really stupid system. I'm sure there are much smarter ways of doing things.

Overall found hotel to be run-down and cleanliness lacking, despite other reviewers mentioning that it has be newly renovated. Will probably only stay here as last resort.

“Beyond Expectation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2011

We had chosen the hotel based on 1 recommendation and it's location. We drove from Singapore and found the place easily.

As this was a girlfriends trip, we expected only a clean bed and bathroom, since we will be out shopping, spa and nightout most of the time. Security of course was a concern and we were assured that the location of the hotel is bustling with local chinese eateries and a new happening "KSL" shopping mall.

With anxious expectation that the hotel is a tower of bed and breakfast place, what greeted us was a newly renovated hotel with bright and spacious lobby. The rooms have windows (daylight), of decent size, simple, basic and is clean.

It served our purpose. We parked at the ample carpark space and walked to the mall which is 2 mins away and was safe when we returned wee hours morning. There is always a security guard present at the lobby.

Some improvement though from the hotel is their maintenance. It needs more work, as the wallpapers along the corridors are fast tearing/peeling while all else still looks new. Each room is equipped only with 2 bath towels, and nothing else. A floor mat in the bathroom would be fantastic.

Breakfast items were sufficient for the price we pay however, plenty of attention from management is need with the replenishing of food and the 1-cook 1 stove egg station. Many guests were complaining and the queue was long. The chief cook were approach by some guests to attend to orders from the kitchen immediately to ease the queue and backlogs of orders but he simple ignored the request and left it to the boy cook. This was the most unprofessional service in the hotel.

Otherwise, value for money. No frills. Simple. Basic and Affordable.

Would return with friends and family but would have breakfast in the mall.
