“Nice Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Nice clean room but be careful with the bathroom floor its slippery. I dropped in the bathroom before. Its like a food heaven due the variety of food for breakfast.

“Nice big rooms, but very poor service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Where to start?
- We booked airport pickup but ended up having to take a taxi into town.
- The first room they gave us was under construction. The A/C and most of the lights weren't working in the second room, (but it WAS a very big, airy, clean room). Called for maintenance 3 times. Nobody came. Called again; maintenance arrived almost an hour later, and then showed us that there is a console box on the night stand that controls everything in the room. (WHY, then, did someone at the front desk not tell us about this, I ask? You'd think after 3 or 4 phone calls, they would've at least ASKED if we'd tried the console . . . )
- Asked for extra pillows. Got them about 5 hours later.
- Kettle and coffee cups in the room, but the dirty cups were never replaced with clean ones.
- Had to hold the toilet button down the whole time it was flushing, or it DIDN'T!
- Shower was meant for 4'2" midgets, and sprayed water all over the entire bathroom.
- Waited for the elevator for FIFTEEN MINUTES in the morning, and we were not alone! By the time we finally got downstairs, they had cleared away EVERYthing in the breakfast buffet. They said breakfast was available until 10:00 and it was JUST THEN 10:00, so they had to have started clearing up around 9:30. They told us the buffet was closed, but by this time I (and a few others who had been waiting for the elevator) was so angry, that I slammed our breakfast vouchers down on the counter, and demanded something to eat. The cook at the egg counter was still working and he quite willingly fried us up some eggs. Then we asked for toast. They brought us cold bread. TOAST, I repeated. Then we asked for it again, and again, and again . . . Same thing with juice. We eventually got the toast, but never did see juice. People at other tables were also angry and complaining about the service.
- When I went to actually register a complaint at the front desk, the guy just looked at me like he didn't even understand what I was saying!
- The jacuzzi was not working the first day we were there. It was on the second day, but not hot and only one jet was working.
- I specifically went to the concierge the night before we were due to leave, to order a taxi for 6:30 a.m. "No problem," they said. They would have a taxi for us. They wrote it down, I SAW them! Next morning, no taxi. They tried to call a taxi. They tried to call another taxi company. And another. Finally, at about 6:45, a taxi arrived. But one of the 'luxury' ones, that charges DOUBLE what the normal taxis charge. NOT happy.
- The published regular room rate on Agoda was $145 USD per night, but they had discounted rates on (which it appears many people fell for), but there is no way on the face of this earth, that the place was work $145 USD. If I'd actually paid full rate, I would have been FURIOUS!

“Central and cosy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Stayed here 2 weeks ago with my friends and i enjoyed it a lot. the hotel is value for money and walking distance to taman sentosa, with tons of good and cheap food.
Ask for a room on higher floors, awesome views!

“average.. rates can be considered not expensive..”

i went to Johor Bahru several times. and this was the third time i stayed in New York Hotel.
The location is quite good. There are many good restaurants nearby. Quite near to the town and shopping malls (but not walking distance).
The hotel has indoor swimming pool.. and sauna.. Clean and comfortable.
They had just made some renovation at the lobby, i think. Much better than before.
The breakfast also not bad. Dont have many choices but enough.

“Terrible attitude!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Although the size of its ballroom was good for big event, but NOT recommanded to have your event here! Service is terrible, old style equipments and facilities, and poor quality food.
Reminder to all event organisers, don't let its low price to influence your mind! I regret as after we had made the first deposit payment. Once the sales person received my deposit, her attitude was sloping down which is big contrast with before payment. Everything we need, they will just accept verbally only.
One of the thing that pissed me off was the sales person was so unprofessional! Her diplomatic skill was so lousy! I think because we still a college student, she wasn't much giving respect to me though I’m the customer. Most ironic thing is that she strongly advise me about the floor plan which is much differ from our required actual floor plan. Most of the request wasn't deliver or improperly. And yet, she still refuses to apologize and blame on me.
Another ridiculous issue was she intends to change and eliminate few of the dishes from our menu which we had already paid the deposit! The reason she gave me is ` I'm sorry, due to our hotel is recently marked up the price, so i should eliminate and change some of the dishes from your menu as the menu you had chosen were at the higher-price rate.` . Of course, this action was declined by my event chairperson and all my committee immediately.
Other, the payment process of this hotel is really unreasonable. First deposit payment is 50% of the total (it is market policy). However, they forced us to pay full amount 2 weeks before our event. However, this was rejected by us. I had no dare to imagine how worse service we will going to experience if we paid full amount to them since we had incurred such a bad service experience before we make the full payment.
Yet, all things should go for F.O.C, you can found chargeable at this hotel. Internet wireless connection chargeable and chair cover chargeable. Forget about the internet wireless connection, the charges incurred to chair cover are really unreasonable. I been informed for each chair cover charge RM 3 for the laundry fee (the reason by sales person is laundry fee is high). Ridiculous! Things should be F.O.C, chargeable at here!
Bear in mind, ranking doesn't work at this hotel's sales department as you found those unreasonable charging factors (I was told by the sales person as i'd called her superior).
Everything mentioned above just the partial of our problem.
I not sure whether all of the sales persons were this attitude, but always reject to meet up with this sales person with the name 'C......'

Don't try this hotel as you are preferred upper-average standard of service and product.
