“It was great!”

The view from our Suite was great! It was clean and well maintained. Pool was wonderful...Kids loved it! They served a good breakfast. We decided to stay here because front desk spoke good english and treated us professionally. They were "straight" with us about the room rates. No overcharging just because we r Singaporeans! Will definitely be back to this gem of a hotel! We liked the stay.

“Not bad..Raja Villa..YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP SERVICE FOR 'PEACE'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2009

I have been going here for the last 2 years, I do agree that this is not the 'normal' sort of hotel you visit.
Staff is not that welcoming at times..but being a seasoned traveller I know handle them and get the best of it. The reason I keep going there is becos of its serenity, beatiful views and offcourse privacy...
This hotel is always quiet and find a very few guests staying here due to the 'do not care'
attitude of the staff..but this is what makes it so private, less people right..This hotel has nothing except the view..so dont expect any service at all.
ENJOY THE PEACE.

“Nice Quiet Hotel with Amazing Hill Top View of the Sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

I'm not sure what happened with the 2 reviews previous to mine which were negative, especially with regards to the front desk.

i had the opposite experience. when i called, the hotel owner (Mr Tan) was gracious enough to give us directions to the place at 1am. front desk service was the best i've seen in malaysia for a long time - they will walk you to your room, and Mr Tan is a friendly host.

the rooms are large, clean, comfortable and the shower is excellent with lots of hot water. Raja Villas is situated on a hill, and the view of the islands off Mersing from this hilltop (either from the swimming pool or the sea facing rooms) is simply unbelievable. i spent hours on a bench underneath a coconut tree next to the swimming pool. it's nice and windy to boot!

it does look deserted, and for the most part it is, which is a good thing! the main multi-storey block is actually composed of service apartments. the hotel block is the 2 storey complex next to it and is not large - i don't think Raja Villas has that many hotel rooms.

do check this place out if you are in Mersing since it's reasonably priced. it's not next to a beach, but by golly the view is simply amazing!

it was the middle of the night and i was desperate for a room. i thought i'd find something better the next day but ended up spending 3 nights here.

We are very pleased that you enjoyed your 3 Night Stay at Raja Villa Resort & Hotel.

We are also pleased you enjoyed the clean, quiet and exclusive ambience of our very special hotel especially our ''guest only'' private pool and gardens. We value our guests' privacy and strive to ensure that they enjoy a very private stay.

For your information, Mr Tan is a senior member of our front desk staff. He knows just almost everything one needs to know about Mersing and the best restaurants to eat here too! He is always enthusiastic with helping our guests and ensuring everyone has a pleasant stay.

We thank you for your unsolicited, independent and honest review of our hotel.

“Something wrong with Raja Villa?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2008

Must agree with previous poster about Raja Villa!
Something not right about this place?

Went there today (Sat 19th April) to enquire about rooms/condo services - but was met by a person (male) who just did not want me there???

Kept telling me that everything has been booked solid for the next 12 months+.

Yet, the general impression that one get's is of an abandoned resort - run-down - no cars/people etc.
Completely empty!
A ghost resort!
Very odd indeed???

There is nothing wrong with Raja Villa Resort & Hotel.

We apologise that there were no available apartments for the period you required for your urgent booking.

We understand your frustration as many members of the public feel the same way you feel when they cannot book with us due to overwhelming demand.

Our hotel is a very private and exclusive hotel and there are limited accommodations available. Advance booking is definitely required. Please do not just drop in at any time.

You were not given a tour of the hotel. The hotel building, accommodation areas and facilities are all private and shielded by architectural design from prying eyes. Therefore you are not entitled to make any conclusions regarding the hotel occupancy or the state of the hotel on the day you visited.

You are also mistaken to associate the number of cars in our public car park with our hotel's occupancy. There are 2 other car parks on site for hotel guests which are situated away from prying eyes which you would not have the opportunity to view. Our guest areas, the swimming pool areas, gardens are all exclusively for guests use only and you would not have been able to view these areas from the entrance of the hotel.

“Delapidated hotel, arrogant manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2008

people found this review helpful

We booked this hotel for two nights, payment on arrival. When we arrived at the property our hearts sank - dead shurbs, mossy exterior, huge bees nests hanging from balconies, restaurant was shut and parts of the hotel looked incomplete.
We asked the receptionist if we could see the swimming pool and our rooms before checking in. She called her manager who told us we had to pay upfront before we could view anything. He claimed that they would return our money if we didn't like what we saw, but at the same time wouldn't commit to when he would come to take us around - we would just have to wait for him.
I negotiated to advance one night's payment instead of two, and he declined this. At that point we walked out and drove home.
I don't know why the man was so arrogant and unfriendly, but I suspect they knew that we would not have stayed after seeing the hotel close up, and that they planned to keep our money.
Narrow miss, don't get caught the same way.

We note that your claims regarding the hotel accommodations building (ie., dead shrubs, mossy exterior etc) are obviously erroneous because you never even had access to the Hotel in the first place if you never checked-in as you claimed.

Our hotel is private and exclusive and if you never checked in, you would not be brought to the Hotel guests' only private accommodations, guests' private gardens, guests' private pool, guests' private jacuzzi, guests' private swimming pool deck, guests' private BBQ area etc. All of the above areas are shielded from prying eyes by the architectural design of the hotel grounds.

You are obviously mistaken with another place or confused.

We have to stress that we value our guest's privacy. Our hotel is private and exclusive and we do not as a norm conduct tours of our hotel to members of the public. If you wish to view our hotel guests' private areas such as the swimming pool and accommodations, you will need to register yourself as a staying guest with a Deposit and proper identification. We make no apologies for this policy which is to ensure that our hotel remains exclusive and that our guests' security is assured.

Of course, if after leaving a Deposit with the front desk and viewing the hotel's private accommodations and facilities, you are not satisfied, you are entitled to a full refund of your Deposit so long as you indicate this to the front desk officer at the earliest opportunity before accepting the keys to your room. This is standard policy.

Finally, we note that despite the criticisms and allegations you have levelled against the hotel, in your own review, you have stated that you still wanted to ''advance one night's payment instead of two'' to us [Your own words].
