We stayed at the Danna for 20 nights in January 2012, having stayed in Melbourne with relatives for a couple of weeks. Firstly, we were very pleased with the hotel's location, by a marina with some bars and restaurants - most of the better hotels are some distance from such facilities on Langkawi, and taxis are needed.
The hotel itself is about a year old, and the service, overall was brilliant. The bedrooms, even the cheaper Merchant rooms are fantastic. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and every request is actioned immediately and with a huge smile! The facilities are what you would expect from a 5* hotel, particularly the pool, which is magnificent. However, although the beach is very nice and clean, we were unable to swim in the sea at all due to the red jellyfish flag flying every day. However, car hire is cheap, and we drove to some lovely remote beaches which were almost deserted apart from the monkeys.
Only downside during our stay - the breakfast chefs do struggle with anything to do with eggs. Even boiled eggs arrived in liquid form, and after we had complained. Poached, over-easy, you name it, they failed miserably to get it right. A minor thing, though, and it certainly did not spoil our holiday!
On the whole, we thoroughly recommend the Danna, and commend the service and staff.
