We stayed at the Berjaya Resort, Langkawi during mid December 2011 for 4 nights. We had booked a Rainforest Chalet but on check-in we were more than happy to get upgraded to a Rainforest Studio (suite).
About the resort: The resort’s landscape is one of its biggest attractions. Spread across acres, the resort is bordered on one side by a private beach with powdery white sand and the placid sea. The rest of the resort is nestled amidst the lush green rainforest offering a wide variety of rooms to choose from - Sea View or Rainforest View.
The recommended Pahn Thai restaurant, located at one end of the resort, was a kilometre from our room. At Berjaya one has to avail the resort’s pick up & drop service often as the restaurant/ lobby may be at a fair distance from your room. Contrary to the reviews I had read of long waiting time (20-30 mins) for shuttles I had a pleasant experience. The service was extremely prompt during our entire stay. Even while returning from Pahn Thai (open only for dinner) we didn’t have to wait for more than 5 minutes, that too late in the night.
Rooms: Our room (Rainforest Studio) was located in the midst of the rainforest. The room (suite) was spacious, neat & tidy and had a private sit out. The room was recently renovated. The resort was/is undergoing renovation, so ensure you book a renovated room. None of the Superior Chalets are renovated and I was told that all Superior Chalets would make way for renovated Rainforest Chalets and Studios by December 2012.
Service: Prompt, courteous, helpful and warm. Have nothing to complain about.
Had a wonderful stay at Berjaya and would highly recommend the same to fellow travellers.
Location: The resort is a 15-20 minute drive from the airport on a secluded part of the island. It is located at a 5 mins walking distance from the Oriental Village (the starting point of the Langkawi Cable Car ride). There are no local restaurants nearby except for a few eateries in the nearby Oriental Village which are open only till about 6:30 in the evening.
Pantai Cenang, one of Langkawi’s busiest areas, offers a wide range of local restaurants and is about 25 mins drive from Berjaya. One way taxi fare to Pantai Cenang is RM 26 (it’s a fixed rate & cabs in Langkawi don’t ply by fare meters).
Berjaya is located away from the hustle bustle of the island and is recommended for people who want to enjoy solitude and tranquillity. If you want to drive around the island, it is recommended you hire a car. If you wish to be close to the local restaurants, pubs and experience the night life of Langkawi, opt for resorts at Pantai Cenang.
Recommended tours/attractions in Langkawi: The Cable Car ride (start the ride about 1.5 hrs before sunset in case you want to experience a picturesque sunset).
Canopy Adventures (http://www.langkawi.travel/): Opt for the full version; its fun, exciting and completely safe. The meeting point (Lubuk Semilang) for this adventure tour is about a 30 mins drive from Berjaya. One way taxi fare to Lubuk Semilang is RM30. One can ask the taxi to come back to pick you up for RM10 over and above the fare to your return/next destination.
Room Tip: The resort was/is undergoing renovation, so ensure you book a renovated room. None of the Superior C...
