“Badly needs a refurb”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Our original booking for a 2 bedroomed bungalow, turned out to be an apartment on the 4th floor of an outlying building - no lift/elevator, so quite a hike. We arrived in pouring rain after
an easy drive from KL just before Chinese New Year. The apartment was a disaster both to look at and to smell. It was very shabby, with little furniture, and what there was was very heavily stained with I know not what! There was a green mold/fungus growing on the wall of the sitting room and a most appalling smell in the bathrooms. My wife, quite correctly, asked the bell boys to remove our luggage immediately back to the reception area. We were sympathetically listened to and the check-in clerk said that an upgrade suite was available at no extra charge in the main wing. The accommodation while not startling was clean and adequate though with hard beds and noisy neighbours across the hallway. But everything worked and the shower was particularly good. We enjoyed an excellent "Steamboat" at the Golden Phoenix restaurant and breakfast was also very good with a wide variety of choice from typical malay cuisine, arab specialities, chinese fry-ups and of course the full British Breakfast - though I think the sausages were made of turkey or chicken! Wi-Fi only seemed to be available in the lobby, and service was intermittent to say the least. staff were alll very pleasant and well motivated but the hotel looks a bit sad and ragged at the edges.

Room Tip: The Junior suite is adequate for 2 couples and a child.

“Great place to stay in =)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Due to sudden decision to visit Cameron Highlands during Chinese New Year, only Equatorial has rooms available. We have booked the Superior Room with Queen Bed. The room is clean and tidy. As the room is on 9th floor, we can simply breath in fresh cool breeze =) Moreover, there are nearby markets to buy fresh vegetables, oranges, strawberries, corns, and souvenirs. This is definitely a good choice to stay in during your visitation to Cameron Highland.

“Below Par appartments”

We recently stayed in their apartments . I was traveling with two families and we rented 2 apartments. Both apartments were smelly due to mildew and dampness. The carpets were worn and dirty. Walls were dirty will all sorts of markings... Yuck! The beddings were damp and smelly and did not appear to be clean. Poor facilities in the kitchen when we have rented rooms for more than 2 people. There were not enough towels, cups or utensils... The curtains were dirty as well! We were very disappointed with the apartments, considering the price and reviews we have read. The worst place we've every stayed in for the high price we paid. Just note that the price quoted does not include service charge and government tax.

“Relaxing, Cool and pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I have read and seen a lot of mixed reviews. What some of the reviewers have mentioned about the sub-par views of the hill and renovations is true. We had a room that showed the whole hill at Brinchang, and it wasn't great.

Yes, there is construction going on now with a new development in place. Yes, it's a little old.

But at the same time, I did feel that the staff was trying their best, and while the view wasn't great, I still enjoyed my stay.

I travelled with my partner in January, which was considered the low season, and the whole town was quiet - which was really nice as we didn't have to battle with bus loads of tourists for everything.

When we arrived at the hotel, there was hotel staff that greeted us at the front entrance and escorted us to the front desk. Check-in was very smooth and in approximately 10 minutes we were in our room.

Our room was pristine and clean, and although we would've preferred a non-smoking room, we did not feel it was uncomfortable staying in a smoking floor. The sheets did not smell bad, bathroom was spotless, and when we called for housekeeping - the staff was efficient.

It was also very cold throughout our stay, so we were pleased with the weather as we were looking forward to a quiet holiday. Despite construction going on, we hardly heard a sound from our rooms. I don't know if we were both heavy sleepers - this might not ring true to others who are more sensitive to their surroundings, but we still slept well past noon with no issues or complaints.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay. I know the hotel is a little old, but then again, if you are looking for the highest peak to stay in Camerons, this is a good place to be.

Let's hope, like all the other hotels in the vicinity, Equatorial will get a well-deserved face lift from the management to better serve its customers.

Room Tip: Higher floors mean cooler and much colder air
