In summary we had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer.
We visited Pangkor Laut from March 3-5. We drove from Penang for about 3 hours. I knew there was a boat transfer at 11am so we tried to get there at that time.
We arrived to the Jetty at 10:55 and were received with cold towels and a nice cold drink. Unfortunately we did not make the transport as we were supposed to be there 15 minutes before the departure time. I was told that the next boat was at 1pm. We tried to make the best of it, their office has air conditioning, magazines, and relax beds. We checked in during this time. I had made a reservation for the Garden Villa 2x via their website. Our party was 3 adults and 2 girls ages 10 and 13. They took our luggage. Then we were informed that a new boat had been scheduled for noon. Woo! We get to go earlier. I parked our car in the parking lot across the street, 5RM per day.
The boat is exclusive for Resort guests. We were given our life jacket and off we go. The ride was about 15 minutes with nice scenery of Pangkor island (a different one). We arrived to Pangkor Laut and were greeted at the dock by the resort staff. We then walked to the lobby where we again received a cold drink and cold towels. It was still early so we had lunch (we had included meals). After lunch we were taken to our villas, a short walk. Two villas in the hill overlooking the ocean. The rooms are very nice, I will include some photos.
Anyway, all of our meals were great. We saw a few families with young children. The beach is at the other side and there are shuttle SUVs taking guests very often. We spent most of our time there, as it is quite beautiful. Specially during the morning and evening with the shade. The staff is always making sure you are comfortable, giving us cold water and towels for the beds and chairs.
There isn't really much to do but relax. We got some of the beach toys from the hotel and swam in the ocean a lot. Everyday they have a jungle walk in the morning. It is a short 500meter walk but the guide explains a few things so it takes about an hour or so. You also walk by the spa area which is adults only, with their own pool. So if you are looking for more privacy that may be worth it. We saw the ocean rooms, they look nice but ours was great too. They also have kayaks which we rented, 1 hour for 20RM, not bad at all. You could get a catamaran for 50RM I think, but we did not.
There's lots of wildlife, hornbills, fruit bats nest in the trees in front of the hotel, turkeys, eagles, crabs and fish. All in all we had a great time. we ordered a few drinks from the hotel but we also took our own bottle of vodka and juices in our luggage. We only drank water with our meals so we did not have to pay much at all outside of our package.
My wife did the early bird spa special, about 2.5 hours including bath, 80min massage and body scrub, she said it was well worth it. It ended too soon!
We had garden villas and loved them, had to walk up hill for 5 minutes to get there. The ocean ones...
