We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and this time we came back because of its location. It is near to the places we wanted to go, some restaurants in the vicinity and nearer to the town than hotels at the beach. I am pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome at the reception, from the bellman to the receptionists. Everyone had a smile on his/her face. We were greeted with "Gong Xi Fa Cai" and "Happy New Year".

As the hotel was running full, we could not get our rooms on non-smoking floor so we were given rooms on smoking floor, but the rooms were ok for us.

Our rooms were actually a 2-bedroom suite with a connecting studio suite. I had thought that it would be looking old and tired but I was happy to find the rooms quite ok, not too worn out. Furnitures were reasonably clean, no stain were found on sofas, and tables were clean.

Our 2-bedroom suite came with a small pantry room, with a standing fridge, some cutleries and plates and bowls in the cupboard and a sink.

There is a big bathroom in the master bedroom, jacuzzi, shower cubicle, and walk-in closet. The view in the bathroom, looking out through a big window at the jacuzzi, was fantastic, I could see the whole Gurney Drive, and the sea out in front.

King size bed in the master bedroom, and twin beds in the second bedroom. Sofas and coffee table in the living room, and a dining area with table and 4 chairs.

In the second bathroom, there was a shower cubicle, but the sliding glass door was not there so when someone showered the floor became wet and slippery. The other drawback was that the tv in the living area was a small one.

The studio suite is relatively clean, except for the bedsheets, a bit of stain. There were twin beds in the studio. A small dining area with a table and 2 chairs, and living area with sofa and coffee table. The tv is also a small one. The big floor-to-ceiling window span almost the entire length of the studio, making the room bright and sunny, otherwise the curtains was good enough to give privacy if needed. The bathroom was also the walk-in closet, there was a jacuzzi tub and separate shower cubicle, this one with door. There was a window between the bathroom and bedroom area, with blinds for privacy. But there was a big ventilation hole on top of the window, so we could pretty much hear everything that went on in the toilet/bathroom if we were on the bed.

There were 2 swimming pools at the hotel, one with slides for the kids and the other was the standard pool. We did not use the other facilities.

Overall, the stay was pleasant and I particular like the friendliness of the staff.

The parking is terrible too limited parking bay at basement and you have to drive to further to get a parking with only a level offering lift link back to hotel. By if you are driving I don't see any reason why this is a prime location after all Penang is a small place. It's suite are pretty small for a Malaysian standard suite

This is definitely the first and the last time we are going to stay here.
1. Check-in time took 50 mins, but hotel staff kept telling us it will only take 5 mins!!

2. Asked for baby cot to be sent up at 4.30pm. They only sent it up at 10.30pm after calling them thrice!!

3. We took the 2-bedroom suite at the 30th floor which had new carpets and curtains, but toilet was leaking urine the very next day!! So we were told to switch rooms and were given a room in the 16th floor but the quality of room really differs! No TV in master bedroom, jacuzzi and shower head leaking when turned on, very old carpets w musty smell, air cond not working well and make loud whistling sound at night! In the first place, it's not our fault that we wanted to change rooms, so they shd give us the same standard of room like the previous one, or even better!

4. The worst nightmare of all, the kitchenette was infested with baby roaches!! Informed staff and claimed that they had cleaned thoroughly but we could still spot the roaches in the kitchenette n bedroom! As a result, since I brought my baby n baby food, we have to move all the baby foodstuff n other food to the dining area in case the food will get contaminated!

We were totally not satisfied with ther service and went straight to the hotel service manager for compensation. The compensation theat they gave after so much negotiation was very little and totally turned us off. My baby came back with small rashes on his body mostly due to the old dirty carpet and old sofa, and if it becomes worse will the hotel be able to compensate for his medical bills?!!

It totally ruined our stay in Penang and we would never ever recommend this hotel to anybody especially those with babies.

This hotel is good for family with kids as they will love the kids pool especially with the slides. Besides, you can use the gym, sauna and can play many other activities like ping pong, dart, snooker, basketball, giant chess and etc for free. The service from the housekeeping, coffee house and reception is quite poor and unfriendly. If you are foreigners, then you will be treated with greetings and smile! In terms of distance, it's far from many attractions and even to Gurney Plaza and Gurney hawker, it will take you about 25-30mins walking and especially with children is not advisable. The only near attractions is the Burmese Temple and the Siamese Temple which is about 10-15mins walking distance. We have book 3 rooms (2 tripple and one double)much earlier and arrive to hotel early about 10.30am to check in but room was not available till 4pm...once check in, beds in double room was not make up to king as requested, lights was not working, safe was not working...the extra beb was not push in for tripple room either. Not a convenient hotel to stay.
