We booked a room in this hotel through an online portal the day before. When we reached at 14:00 the next day, things started to go wrong. The receptionist informed us that there was no room available and we were told to wait an hour before we could check into our room. After insisting that they should've got a room ready for us by now coz it wasn't like we requested an early check-in, the receptionist said she was gonna give us a 'newly-renovated' room.
Sounds good, yet the wrong continued... We went up all the way to the 21st floor just to find out that the key-card to the room couldn't work and my husband had to go all the way down, get the card unblocked and come all the way up again - a massive inconvenience which was absolutely unnecessary had the receptionist been more conscientious.
We entered the room, and yes...it just had a major make-over. But just as I was about to get excited, we realized the room still smelled from the new furnishings and I wasn't sure if I appreciated being in a room with all the toxic fumes from the new carpet, curtains and furniture.
Then it got worse... I saw that the furniture was all dusty and dirty inside and outside (including the shelves, drawers) from the renovating works done in that room before and had not been cleaned at all since the workers left. When a piece of wire pricked my foot as I was walking in the room later, it dawned upon me that the carpet had probably not been vacuumed either.
As I entered the bathroom, I saw the worst. The whole floor was full of dirt/sand from the renovating job and it was obvious the whole bathroom had not been washed at all, as the bathtub and soap-tray also had a layer of dirt on them.
The bathroom fixtures (lights, door-knob, shower fixtures) were likewise dirty and rusty (see photos attached). And with the TV remote-control missing its batteries, it was very clear that the room wasn't ready at all to use and that they put things together at the last minute and dumped us in.
I mean, how was I supposed to feel about a room in THAT condition?? For a hotel with a four-star rating, is it really THAT hard to get a room ready for your guests by standard check-in time??
Hotel Management, can you please ensure the room is thoroughly cleaned (particularly after a renovation!) and suitable for occupying before checking guests in? It's not like the room comes cheap, you know... Just a thought...
