“Harrassed when trying to cancel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I booked 3nights for a friend over the CNY but she had to leave for Chiangmai. The owner shouted at me and was verbally agressive when I tried to cancel the booking 24 hours ahead as stipulated by Hostelworld.com.

The owner of Love Lane Inn refused the cancellation, and demanded that I informed Hostelworld myself. Hostelworld's policy clearly stipulated that you can cancel with the hostel directly if you do not have an account with them especially when I live in the same city a few minutes away!!!

“decent reasonable hostel, but be warned of the old man!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Right this hostel/inn\hotel not sure which is alright, its a nice hostel its clean simple and is placed nicely in the middle of georgetown perfect to get about and the food around is fantastic! the beds are nothing special you get a clean pillow and bed sheet, theres two showers and 2 toilets for about 13ring for the dorm room

but heres the warning its not completly comfortable there! the old man is prone to moments of anger and shouting fits, he can decide to kick you out for some of the smallest matters or make your stay uncomfortable beyond belief he is not a host, but runs the job. Basically i used something that wasnt in my room, it was in another room that was free people had to walk past/through it to get to the dorm it wasnt private, and when i say something it wasnt a bed or a private shower it was a plug socket, for 10mins. He shouted, he swore, he told me to leave, in the process woke 5 other guests who all agreed it was a little over the top, iff he wasnt happy with me using the plug socket he could have asked me to move but he got a little angry and let everyone know, the dorm has no plug socket so we dont get to use one! he made my entire time there feel uncomfortable, he glared, snapped, and told every guest he met, that some rude boy who show no respect use things he doesnt pay for, and kept shouting at me that i had to check out, and very uncomfortable stay

the same thing happened for two other guests when one was offered to use the staff fridge by a member of staff, and when the old man saw what was in he exploded on the customer even thoguh she explained that another member of staff had offered her to use it, turned heads in his own reception, the other was a man who had left his external hard drive for his computer on the top and forgot it was there, the old man then hid the hard drive for about 5 hours when the guest needed it and then when he guest asked again if he had seen it he slammed it on the desk and shouted you have to look after your things its not our responsibility although he had technically took, hid and stole it from the guest for 5 hours, this was within one day, he made 3 people very shocked and unhappy with there stay i dont know how often it happens

the hostel is a nice stay its what you want for the price, but just keep your head down and make no mistakes for him to jump on, its really not worth it for how he can make you feel

“Absolute dive, filthy bathrooms and mice in the hallways”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We arrived in Georgetown without reservations but the 3 recommended places we tried first were all full so out of desperation and to get out of the rain, we booked in for 3 nights at this place. Big mistake. Tiny room, paper thin walls, Wifi not working, grotty and too few bathrooms and to top it all off, there was a mouse running along the corridors and into the rooms.

We packed up and told the owner Jimmy that we wouldn't stay for the remaining 2 nights and asked for a refund. All kinds of abuse followed with him calling us liars, refusing a refund and told me to go to the police if I didn't like it. Also said all his other guests were happy but looking at Tripadvisor that's blatantly not the case. Avoid like the plague, which you might well catch if you stay here!!! Would give it zero if I could.

Room Tip: Rooms in any other hostel/hotel/morgue would be better.

“Mostly good, couple of negatives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Having read some of the reviews after checking in to love lane inn I was a bit apprehensive about staying.
But after 3 nights, like some of my other reviews, I have to say 'stop moaning people'.
The triple room we were in (no 2) was a decent size, quiet enough for a city and dark enough to sleep well but light enough to see what you're doing.
No bed bug problems for us.
The hostel is well located close to china town and little India and on main bus routes.
The owner (as I saw it) was a bit abrupt at times but when you got chatting to him was extremely helpful and his wife even more so. I think this all adds to his 'charm' They have been all over mainland Malaysia and gave us honest opinions on where to stay and how to get there.
The only negatives were:
New mattresses needed as they weren't the best
The room got quite hot and the ceiling fan wasn't great
Only one shower and one toilet on the floor for all the people
For the price you can't really complain- some people are just too precious to be backpacking in my opinion

“You get what you pay for. Fine for me.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

I stayed here for 5 days in October 2011.
I arrived without booking and the lady at the desk was friendly and helpful. I asked for a single room and right away she showed me the room without me even asking. The room was basic, single bed with fan and a small table. 20RM per night.
I was given the the Wifi password for free and I also saw the same for many other guests.
Yes wifi is only on from 7am until 11pm, but sometimes later if you are still awake hanging out in the common area.
In the morning you get one free coffee, if you want more it costs 1RM, but again sometimes they give you another one for free.
They were also very helpful with helping to organize day trips, telling me how to get to many places taking the public buses and never tried to sell me any overpriced day tours.
There are cold showers and squat toilets and you need your own TP.
A smile goes along way when you are staying in places like this, if you are nice a polite to them they will treat you with the same respect, if you are rude and demanding they will do the same.
This place is cheap and basic, it's up to you to make it a nice stay. If you want somewhere better you can go across the road and pay 38RM for a dorm bed.
I enjoyed my stay and will definatly go back next time I am in georgetown.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor can be very noisy during the day if you want to sleep in as they are ve...
