“Found my KK Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

I have traveled to KK several times--sometimes on my way to other places, but regardless of the destination, an overnight stay in KK is always warranted. KK has a beautiful waterfront and is a great place to recover when traveling on a long trip to another destination. Cititel Express has a great location in walking distance to the Waterfront and City Center, shopping, money changers, restaurants, and any other services you need from the downtown area of KK. The rooms are clean but can be quite small. However, I have stayed in many other hotels in KK, and the quality has really varied from crappy and average to decent to good. Even though they charge a nominal fee for Internet usage, I was very happy with the quality and strength of signal that allowed me to conduct all my business on my computer. This was a welcome contrast to my previous KK hotel which had comfortable rooms but a weak wifi internet signal. I will be returning to Cititel on my next stay in Kota Kinabalu. It has the perfect mix of quality and value that businessmen seek when looking for a good mid-range hotel in terms of star value.

Room Tip: Nominal fee for WiFi Internet access but was well worth it because it was relatively reliable.

“Good hotel for the price and well located”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

This hotel is just a couple of blocks from the waterfront. The rooms are very small and the twin rooms are in the middle of the hotel so they don't have windows. It can be a little noisy outside if you do have the window open. Filtered water and ironing boards are located in a room beside the lift on every floor. The hotel reception were helpful. There is a cafe in the foyer which I did not eat in but others said the food was good.

“Rooms are small, small, very small”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Great location, it's close to the various spots and eateries. Guardian (pharmacy) is right next to the hotel.

There is a complimentary car park for hotel guests in front of the hotel. Choose this hotel if you are driving and don't mind a small room. Also, hotel staff is friendly and hospitable. We had problem with the aircon on the first night, and the staff (technician) got it fixed within 15 mins. Applause!

Another plus point, It's also within walking distance to the famous Gaya Street where the Sunday market is held on every sunday morning.

It's good for single, business stay, but not so suitable for family which brings along their children. Rooms are too small for kids to move around.

“Value for money!”

Spent 2 nights in this hotel. The room is small, as other reviews mention, yet it's quite new and clean. The location is good, only 10-15 min. away from the airport and 5 min. walk to the famous seafood restaurant, didn't try the breakfast as there is a great coffee and toast place in 100m away.

“Good location and value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed here for two nights. I choose this hotel because of its location and it offers the best value for money for a big hotel in downtown KK that has the closest proximity to the waterfront, Kampung Air night market, The dried seafood market and the awesome Sinsuran night market (next to the waterfront). It is located right next to Asia City Mall, and only a walking distance to Centerpoint and Warisan Square shopping mall. The staffs are nice and friendly.

First impression of the room is, it is too damn small. But, it is ingeniously designed to utilize every available space, sort of a Japanese style room arrangement. It is interesting that the back of the wardrobe is a frosted glass window of the bathroom, so you can have sort of an ambient light when you sleep. The room is clean, cozy and comfortable. The bathroom is very nicely designed, with a lockable sliding door/mirror, but the water pressure is not that great and the toilet was dirty when I get in. My main complaint is that the table is only a 1 x 2 foot fixed table attached to the wall. It barely fit my notebook when I want to do some work (I prefer using a table than the bed).

Wifi is available, but you have to get the username and password form the front desk. The breakfast is quite nice.
