“Great hotel and location - extras expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Stayed here twice over our holiday (At the Pacific), the hotel is set in a stunning location, the facilities are very high quality and they are just as you would expect from a hotel that markets itself as a 5 star hotel. Staff are excellent and very helpful, any issues we had were immediately sorted. We would happily stay here again.

The but...... everything is expensive once inside. Any extras, food particularly were expensive when you compare it directly to eating the same food in the city. The shuttle bus into the city was an excellent service, but getting home is more of a risk as the buses run hourly and it is first come first serve. Plus there are some gaps - no bus at 1900 for example. If I were a cynic it would be so that people cannot easily get into town at evening meal time - making them eat in the hotel. But I may be wrong.

But if budget isn't an issue or western food is what you are looking for then that is not a problem. Just remember that every price you are quoted (as everywhere in Borneo) has 16% put onto it service charge and tax. This includes hotel rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony

“One of the best resorts we ever stayed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

The hotel consists actually of large hotels, 1 golf club with 27 wholes and a large marina.
Between the two hotels one can choose all kind of sports facilities, various pools( one olympic size), tennis courts, golf courses and Gyms. The various restaurants from coffee shop, leisurely
mediterranean to Chinese fine dining offer all kind of possibilities for a variety of foods and never boring. A nice cafe Muffinz with good coffee, shakes, cakes, smoothies are part of the variety of foods one can enjoy.
The rooms are spacious, the bath rooms have a bath tub and a nice large shower separately and the bath room amenities are first class. The only little short coming is the relatively small sand beach but one can use the free of charge shuttle to one island belonging to the resort with ample sandy beach and the large lawn areas in front of the beach and the sea.
The resort is impeccably clean and even the water in the marina is so clear one can even see all kind of tropical fishes and live coral. One can hardly find any little piece of trash since there is a constant cleaning going on.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Magellan Wing are newer than in the Pacific Sutera and have mostly balconies.

“A Good Business Hotel in Pacific Sutera”

Pacific Sutera is well suited for business purpose. The room is spacious and well equipped with the Internet access. Beside, the staffs in Business Center was really helpful.

Room Tip: Sea view will be better.

“Large and well located”

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon.

It is a very large and excellently equipped hotel. There are plenty of pools, including an Olympic distance pool, which was a bit different. The gym and all the other facilities we used were of a high standard.

The breakfast was of a good standard, with all the normal items you would expect in this type of hotel. We also had a couple of meals at the large restaurant that does a wide range of food, including pizza. The food was nice and of good value. The band visiting the tables and taking requests were also a nice touch.

Overall we had a very nice stay here..

“A little below expectations.”

This hotel is in a great location within easy reach of Kota Kinabalu. The pool and facilities are really good. It's all showing its age a bit though and is looking tired. The sunbeds around the pool are made of timber and are falling apart. The boardwalk between the pool and the ocean is starting to rot. The lift has not been working for the last four days. Our friends room safe was not working on arrival and it took six days to get it fixed. We visited the business centre on three occasions and each time it was closed despite our visit being within the advertised opening time.
Just lots of annoying things that leave a question mark against a return visit. The staff it must be said are really friendly and we enjoyed our stay. But just too many negatives.
