We stayed in Eastin for 2 nights over the Chinese New Year period. I was attracted by the the pricing of the hotel compared to all other 4-start hotels around the KL/PJ area. Based on other reviewers, I was also attracted by the fact that the rooms have apparently been recently upgraded and that the hotel manager actually responded to reviewers comments on TripAdvisor - shows that they are in-touch with what travellers need.
I booked a standard deluxe room via a third-party site and requested for non-smoking, king-sized bed. At check-in, the receptionist noted that I had requested this and confirmed that the room was indeed non-smoking and comes with a king-sized bed. Nice touch, and again, shows that the hotel staff actually takes into account requests that come in.
The hotel room did look like it had been recently refurbished (new wallpaper, headboard, carpets), it was a spacious (kind of spartan actually) room with a desk and reading chair. The sheets seemed a bit worn compared to the furnishing. The bathroom was disappointing - the refurbishment obviously didn't include upgrading the bathroom (old sink, old shower head, old tiles). Again, the overall feel was rather spartan, but old.
In the early morning of our stay, we noticed a dripping sound and found that a drip in front of the entrance, and it looked like a leak from the ceiling board. We informed the concierge when we left the hotel - but we had to repeat ourselves three times before they understood what we were saying. Maybe they got confused because we were getting our parking ticket validated at the same time...? We THINK they understood that the ceiling was leaking by the time we left the concierge desk.
When we got back to the room, the leak was gone - but then it came back that same night! Although from the same leak area, it was leaking about a foot away from the original spot. We didn't bother informing them the second time round, as we assume that the housekeeping would notice it during their routine cleaning after we check out.
One bad experience we encountered was with the valet parking service. When we drove up, we got handed a ticket that said "RM15 (24 hours)", which we interpret to mean that the RM15 would be valid for 24 hours from the time we park the car with the valet. We then took the car out and came back in the afternoon and put it with the valet again. On our second trip out, we informed the valet that it was still within the original 24 hours. And he gave us a smirk and said, "No, it's RM15 per entry". I argued with him that the ticket said "RM15 for 24 hours" and he said that the 'board' said per entry and pointed vaguely at a stand-up board some distance away. As we were rushing out, I told him that we will discuss it with the receptionist when we checked out. When we drove away, we did take a look at the stand-up board and it DID say "RM15 per entry" - however, this was NOT placed near the valet desk and for anyone placing the car with the valet, it would not be noticed if the valet doesn't point it out.
We were not very happy with this and was prepared to have a healthy debate at check-out, but the bill came with only one valet charge of RM15. We happily paid the amount, but the feeling of getting ripped off is not easily forgotten - even if you didn't actually get ripped off in the end - and if given the chance, would have liked to point this incident out to the hotel management. However, we were attended to by a trainee at check-out, so felt that it was not the best avenue of complaint.
Overall, the hotel is slightly above average in that the rooms were newly-refurbished and it was good value. I'd probably stay there again only for its location.
