Together with 2 of my college friends, I wanted to absolutely go to one of these Malaysian islands. Absolutely did not regret this.
There are several ways to get on the island, but this is how we did it. We took a a night bus to Kuala Terengganu and it was one hell of a ride. OMG. It was a doubledecker and somehow we got the seats on the front right behind the front glass. The seatbelts were there, but they were just rubbish. As if they were just glued their for fun. I felt like we were riding a camel.
Anyways, the hotel fixed us a van to pick us up and drop us off at the ferry boat to get to the island. Beware, it's gonna be a bumpy ride...
The resort is really nice! It's so much more calm than the other beach Laguna. If you want loud music blasting all the time, annoying kids crying and an overload of tourists, then go Laguna indeed. Well there's more to do there anyways. Kalong is more for those people who enjoy a silent, relaxing diving/snorkeling holiday.
Food's not too bad. There's always some tea, coffee, juice, bread, available.
Rooms are ok. BUT, the walls are really thin and I could hear our neighbours walking over the floor all the time. Hahaha. on our last night, we were laughing and talking about our trip, and apparently a lot of people complained about us being noisy, but... we really weren't!
Since we don't have diving licenses, the three of us went snorkeling and let me tell you. It is possible to get seasick while swimming with a life jacket. DANG. hahaha epic fail! Anyways.
It's pretty laid back and small. I managed to meet a lot of nice people there. Definitely planning to go back in the future!
P.S. PLEASE TAKE THE PLANE WHEN YOU GO BACK! We did and we do not regret it! Haha!
