I stayed at this hotel with my wife for about a week. It's a lovely hotel with all the trimmings you would expect at a brand such as Marriott. The rooms are great. The problem with this hotel is the service quality and dining options. There is only one restaurant. The food is supposed to be 'Western,' but it is absolutely horrible. Don't even bother with it if you are craving true Western food. There is also no shuttle service available to take guests to the metro station or the clubhouse. When we asked about getting a shuttle to the clubhouse, the reception staff told us we could walk. Yes, we know that we could have walked it, but it was like 45 degrees out and we really didn't feel like being in that kind of heat (we're in our 60s!). After a bit of fuss, the manager agreed to allow us to take the shuttle bus.
There were also issues with communication, as only a couple (maybe only one) of the staff can speak English proficiently. This came as a bit of a shock seeing how the hotel is geared towards guests who are in Guangzhou for the Canton fair. The management should definitely think about training their staff.
Overall, a nice looking hotel, but forget about any kind of quality service. This seems to be typical in the mainland, even if staying at 5 star international brand. Perhaps this is also related to the culture, because from what I've heard from friends who have lived in the mainland for years, service is pretty much non-existent...at least at the international level. This is where China is still eons behind the rest of the world. Just because there are millions of people doesn't mean you should neglect customer service (the mind-set is that if you don't like it, tough, there are many more customers out there waiting). Sad.
