I booked this hotel for 2 nights based on the reviews from Tripadvisor and also had good feedback from my travel agent. I stayed in the business suite with the king size bed - it was HUGE, had a nice bathroom and a view of the street below which was pretty at night. This was my first time travelling to China and stayed in Guangzhou as a stopover to another city in China. It's a great shopping area and as a solo traveller I felt quite safe walking around by myself in the day and also at night. Location was great and I caught the train from the airport with the help of a local friend, got off the train station and walked to the hotel with my luggage. Spent my days walking to the department stores, and small surrounding shops and picked up many bargains - lots of places to eat and easy to order as most places had pictures. Staff were friendly, the room was very clean and the bed was comfy! Would definately stay here again. I did feel a bit intimidated with the need to bargain in some of the smaller stores, but that's just my inexperience - so felt more comfortable buying cheap clothes from the branded stores which had set sale prices.

Great location for shopping .. only 10 min from train station & next to Guangzhou Restaurant (2nd Floor) where you can try their Dim Sum.

If your main objective is to shop shop shop, then Holiday Inn Shifu is an excellent choice. It is located right in the pedestrian shopping area of "Shang Xia Jiu Pu". Plenty of shops and restaurants outside the hotel. This is a typical Holiday Inn chain hotel, rooms are clean and functional. There is a small gym and a nice small pool too, but too cold to swim in December.
Stayed in a deluxe room which has a big comfortable king size bed and soft pillows. Unfortunately on my second night, the room next door was making so much noise that we couldnt sleep at all. I complained to the front desk and after a futile request to quiet down the inconsiderate local guys next door ( i could hear them talking and laughing loudly and from the slang, they are local chinese) , the front desk guy decided to move us to a different room and to make up the inconveniences caused to us, we were upgraded to a suite room. I am very impressed with the front desk guy as he was very apologetic over the whole issues.
Apart from this unpleasant incident of inconsiderate people next door, i will rate my stay at Holiday Inn very pleasant. This is the 2nd time i am staying here and definitely will return to stay here again if i come to guangzhou for shopping again.
