We stayed in Richmond Hotel Sapporo Ekimae December 27, 2009. One night.
We arrived from Tokyo to Chitose Airport, and took the airport bus, got off at the Hotel Monterey Edelhof bus stop, had to walk 3 minutes and across a large street intersection to reach the hotel. Thank goodness it wasn't snowing, but there were snow on the roads, hence our suitcase (bottoms) were wet upon arriving at the hotel's lobby. Now I understand why people put plastic bags around their suitcases at the airport!
Anyways, it was manageable even with 4 kids (ages 6, 6, 4 and 4), and 4 adults... we checked in two Universal Rooms, it's their biggest rooms. Basic, no frills, but very clean, and very good amenities. We paid 14 000 yen for one night, and the front desk has staff who spoke perfect English. Helped us reserve Crab restaurant for dinner, gave us maps and always were so helpful in anything we needed.
Free internet, large LCD TV, fridge (nothing inside) , you can buy drinks to use the fridge.
The location is great, just 5 minutes to Esta building where there are so many dining options, ramen eating center, department stores, and nearby convenience stores.
After 1 night, we checked out, Skybus came to pick us up at the hotel and we headed to Niseko for 1 week of skiing. My son left his stuffed doll at Richmond Hotel, and I called from Niseko's hotel, they mailed it back to me within the next day! That's great service!
Highly recommend this hotel for anyone who isn't demanding luxurious, but clean, and basic accomodation in Sapporo.
