As there wasn't any English reviews, I was a little skeptical of this hotel and was afraid that I would end up in a dingy part of town.... hence I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that it is located within 5 - 7 mins walk from Odori Subway station; which was very manageable even though it was sub 5 deg Celsius outside and we were carrying luggage (a 15kg trolley & 12kg backpack).
The hotel is also within walking distance to Odori park, Susukino (the main entertainment district), Nijo Fish market and Ramen Alley. There is also a 24 hour convenience store nearby for when you need anything.
The hotel receives mostly Japanese clientele and some from Hong Kong. Their front desk service was helpful, with at least 1 English speaking staff on duty at anyone time.
We've got a non smoking room with a double bed which was small by western standards but well designed to maximize the limited space and had all the amenities of a business hotel. The bathrooms also had a bath tub and full range of toilettries inclusive of facial wash.
All in all the hotel was good value because of its location, clean rooms, efficient service and also a touch of Japanese hospitality.. it is trivial but I was quite blown away that they gave us complimentary heat packs (it's winter) & facial masks upon check in..
Note - there is another Richmond Hotel near Sapporo Station.. so don't be confused by the locations as it's not stated clearly in their city tourist maps.
