We have stayed at a few different hotels in Sapporo including a $50 a night p/room business hotel, -which would've been better than Keio plaza for $250 a night. I have to be fair and mention that this was during the Sapporo snow festival so it may have been more expensive than usual.
We got to the hotel at 1pm, couldn't check in until 2pm -which we expected as it was quite busy due to the snow festival. They looked after our bags so we could go out. We were told that we couldn't take our snowboard or skis up to our room so were told to use the locker. We had been skiing previous to the stay in Sapporo so we had packed our snowboard/ski bags so we can check them in on our flight home to Australia as they were -wrapped our ski jacket/pants around skis and board, beanies on both ends etc -to protect them just in case. The locker we were told that we must use, were like the ones on the snow, where you can literally only lock up skis and boards. Which means we had to unpack everything. What harm is it to just put them in the corner of the room?? That was so annoying. and out of all the poeple staying in this massive hotel, the locker still only had our ski and snowboard the next morning! I doubt we were the only people with our skis.
We didn't ask for a smoking room but that's what we got. My husband does smoke when on holidays but we never get smoking rooms as they stink. And this one did too of course. Didn't bother calling reception as the porter told us it was full house earlier. Room was pretty small, we had the view of the city from our 17th floor room. Bathroom was so strangely designed, it was tiny with no space for us to put our toiletry bag anywhere.
There was a massage chair in the room, which was cool, TV was so annoying to turn on as you had to use 2 remotes to watch anything.
The doona(? the top blanket that never gets changed) was so disgusting, it had stains all over it and i had to make sure I didn't touch it.
In the entrance of the room, the floor has wooden floor boards which makes so much noise if people are wearing heels or opening their suitcases etc - which our neighbours did until quite late at night. Couldn't complain as we didn't know exactly which room it was coming from.
We were pretty close to the elevators and we could hear them going all night.Enough to keep us up.
Breakfast was buffet at the restaurant on lobby floor. Very busy, we were seated outside of the restaurant which is a cafe during the day. Food was okay but it was gross with people coughing and splattering all over the place.
Will never stay at this hotel again. I have never said so many bad things about 1 hotel, but this was really bad -especially when business hotels can be so decent for much less.
