The station makes a great location to tour from. The Hotel is excellent, but may be expensive if you are paying full rates. I got a winter special deal so this was great value for money.

A big beautiful flashy hotel situated above the main train station in Kyoto with easy access to the subway and therefore all parts of Kyoto. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite which was absolutely fantastic - everything had been covered. As a result, the suite was far better than the double room that we had paid for and fantastic value - without the upgrade it is quite pricey. Make sure that you get a package that includes breakfast as the buffet is brilliant!
The city view was phenomenal!
While being at the station is obviously a very central location, there are possibly better places to stay but you certainly can't fault the service and the quality.
The location can't be beat - right in the center of Kyoto Station. Our room was moderately sized - fine for us. Staff speaks enough English to get by. Our room rate (2 different bookings) varied from $160 - $200/night, which was well worth it. Only con I can think of is that there isn't in-room coffee.
if you find yourself traveling to Kyoto, make sure to stay at Hotel Granvia. Its location is very strategic that if you're after shopping, all you have to do is walk across the Kyoto Station and you'd find the Isetan where you can shop all you want.
The hotel staff of Hotel Granvia are very polite. Although very few of them speak English, they will always try to find a way to accommodate you in any way they can. The hotel room is small, but the bed sheets are always immaculately clean. And they replenish the toiletries everyday! The bathroom is simply spotless!
If i'll be given another chance to go to Kyoto, i'd choose to stay at Hotel Granvia again!
Granvia offers a great location right at Kyoto station and accommodations that will be suitable for most travelers. It has everthing you'll need to ensure comfort and convenience -- clean & comfy rooms, helpful staff and decent restaurants nearby.
Do not stay here if you're seeking a unique Japanese experience with tatami rooms and hot springs. For that you should look into Ryokan. However if you're visiting Kyoto with plans to be out and about or are on business, you'll find a hard time finding a better or more convenient alternative.
