We endorse all the comments below. We stayed nine nights in a twin bed room and though it wasn't huge we got by quite well. The downstairs of the hotel includes an area that's almost like a hostel with tables, microwave, free coffee and tea, and even massage chairs. Even better, washing machines and driers! And free wifi.
The location is almost in the heart of the temple route while remaining in normal Japanese suburb so you get ready access to sights while also getting an idea of what it's like to be a resident. It's very well placed for subway, train and bus connections ot al the places you're going to want to go.
If you're going to be in Kyoto more than a couple of days you'll be wanting to conquer the subway, and the Higashiyama station is about 2 minutes walk away which makes it very easy. Change at Karasuma-oike and go down to Shijo and you're in the main shopping street and only a block away from Nishiki market. Not to mention Daimaru's basement food hall (though we also had a soft spot for Takashimaya's at the other end near the river).
Walking into the restaurant alley of Pontocho (parallel to the river on the western side) takes about twenty minutes and you're passing food outlets, McD's, a decent sake store, an expat pub and so on. And you can walk down the canal to the happening area of Gion in fifteen minutes. Between the subway station and the hotel is a Lawson convenience store where we'd stock up on booze, yoghurt, rice triangles, etc (though I only ever found the Int'l Herald Tribune at the next one 100m uphill).
Trying to find the hotel the first time is a little daunting as you tend to mistrust the map that's on the net but it's actually right. Tip:the hotel is closest to the northern entrance; the lift is at the southern entrance.
There's a very decent restaurant nearby too that we found via http://kyotofoodie.com/teishoku-joint-asuka/ so even if you couldn't be stuffed going out in the evening or hadn't brought home a load of nummies from the department store you can eat well.
I would suggest bringing books though - we only found one English-ish channel on the TV (Fox Japan, 50% dubbed).
