“Worth another stay!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I recently traveled to Kyoto for a work conference in late November 2011. While the conference itself was located at the convention center and required a daily train commute, I am very satisfied with my decision to stay at Kyoto Tokyu Hotel. Prior posts have commented that the location is not ideal. However, I found the hotel to be easily accessible. It is a short walk to the closest train station. Additionally, the hotel runs a FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE to Kyoto Station, which is the transportation hub. Check out the schedule online for drop-off and pick-up details.

The hotel room was modern and clean with good amenities such as a small fridge for beverages. The main lobby was pleasant and incorporates a soothing water feature. The room was of an adequate size by Japanese standards.

On the downside, there is NO FREE INTERNET. There is a daily surcharge, which I opted out of and just checked emails, etc. on my iphone.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to other travelers and I would stay there for future Kyoto trips.

“Nice hotel, middle of nowhere”

The important thing to know with this hotel is that it's a long way to Gion - which is where you'll want to eat and explore. It's a long long walk to the nearest train station or you can take two buses to get to town. It takes about 20 minutes to half an hour depending on traffic. Our room was nice but overlooked the carpark next door - as do half the rooms in the hotel. The beds were uncomfortable, as were the pillows, but that's Japan. If you're happy catching cabs - then this is an okay place to stay and there's a shuttle to the Kyoto rail station which is handy. But the first shuttle is 8am so don't plan on an early start.

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Great hotel and a good location - tucked away into the Kyoto silence. Next to a huge temple. I do not review service quality in Japan!

“We enjoyed our stay, though the location is not very central”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

The room was modern, well equipped and clean, and size was ok. The hotel has attractive water feature/garden. Good underground parking though you pay a fee. We enjoyed the food in the main restaurant/coffee shop. They also have two other restaurants specializing in Japanese and Chinese food that we didn't try. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help with any request, just like their sister hotel in Nagoya. There are not many restaurants nearby and, although the sights of Kyoto are spread widely across the city, this hotel is not in the best location for sightseeing; however, they have a free shuttle bus to the JR station which we used and this helped a bit for sightseeing and eating out.

“Would return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2011

Stayed here for 5 nights (first time guest)
First . . . the bad
(a) I had a tiny rental car and the underground parking spots are TOO narrow (4 inches between cars!!). It really is an unadvertised disaster. It will be awkward to park if you arrive by car.
(b) The bar fridge in the room was so loaded with THEIR booze that it was unusable.
(c) Internet charge was 1260 yen - no discount for usage of less than 24 hours
(d) No ice bucket in the room
(e) No vending machine on the hotel property.
(f) Paper thin walls
Now . . . the GOOD!
(a) Excellent tub/shower controls (could keep right at 40 C)
(b) Security patrolled the parking area
(c) good location - close to public transit and shopping/sightseeing.
