I recently traveled to Kyoto for a work conference in late November 2011. While the conference itself was located at the convention center and required a daily train commute, I am very satisfied with my decision to stay at Kyoto Tokyu Hotel. Prior posts have commented that the location is not ideal. However, I found the hotel to be easily accessible. It is a short walk to the closest train station. Additionally, the hotel runs a FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE to Kyoto Station, which is the transportation hub. Check out the schedule online for drop-off and pick-up details.
The hotel room was modern and clean with good amenities such as a small fridge for beverages. The main lobby was pleasant and incorporates a soothing water feature. The room was of an adequate size by Japanese standards.
On the downside, there is NO FREE INTERNET. There is a daily surcharge, which I opted out of and just checked emails, etc. on my iphone.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to other travelers and I would stay there for future Kyoto trips.
