Onsen: 8/10. Food: 4/10. Service: 8/10. We read about this Ryokan online and when we saw that they offered day passes to their onsens, which included lunch we had to go. We sprung for the 80,000 yen deal which includes lunch, access to the main onsen, and 45 minute private booking of the open air onsen. We went on a Friday morning/afternoon and were the only people there to our delight! We had all the facilities to ourselves. The main onsen was wonderful with 1 indoor and 2 outdoor baths. The open air onsen was nice, but we much preferred the main onsen; we would have been happy with the 70,000 yen package and not going to the outdoor onsen. Kaiseki was rather disappointing. A few good dishes here and there, but overall underwhelming and lacking flavour. The staff were wonderful and gave us full access to the ryokan for the day. We took a nice nap in the library between the onsens.
Most convenient was the shuttle they offer from Kameoka station! It is free and saves you what I imagine would be an expensive taxi ride (the drive is about 20-30 minutes).More
