During my first visit in Japan, I stayed in Karasuma Kyoto Hotel. I must say, it is an excellent hotel for a reasonable price. I read a lot about small rooms and beds in almost all hotels in Japan, but this hotel is not that bad at all.

i booked the room well in advance after reading some good reviews on tripadvisor and frankly speaking, it was not a mistake. The hotel is located on a busy street and close to the main shopping district. A metro station (Shijo) is just 1min walk from the hotel. There are a few departmental stores and restaurants available within walking distance.

My room was small, but big enough for one person. There were TV (mostly Japanese channels), high-speed wired internet, a writing desk, a small refrigerator and some small but useful supplies. Every part of this hotel is super clean. The staff at the desk and the room service (I hardly used any) were very very polite and professional.

I loved my four nights stay at this hotel. Highly recommended.

I stayed in this hotel for a month. It was good value for Japan,the rooms were very spacious again for Japan and the surrounding city of Kyoto is lovely.
There was a Starbucks downstairs which was fantastic and then an even greater coffee shop directly across the road.
Very little too complain about in this hotel. The rooms were maybe slightly grotty and more basic than other rooms in Japan.Though still had all the amenities,ie ac,internet,tv etc

My husband and I spent 9 nights here in Kyoto, in truth we wish we had another 9. This location was not only a very convenient location for our sightseeing but also run by an extremely polite, friendly and efficient staff. Ukon-san greeted us after an exhausting bout of travel from Boston, to Kansai, then the train into Kyoto. Her warm welcome was the beginning of the best vacation we have ever taken. Our room was very comfortable with a great view, when we go back we'll likely request rooms on one of the renovated floors. I found myself enjoying a cup of tea daily, love the heated dispenser and stocked tea in room. My husband loved the free internet use too.

I stayed 4 nights recently at this hotel and found it to be a great location to embark on foot tours each day to see a different part of Kyoto. Situated close to a subway station and probably a mile or two from the Kyoto Station, traversing the city on foot or using the various subway corridors is quite easy. There are a few things though. Hotel internet connections are not available and one must be in the lobby to get wireless. If you are seeking a cold beverage, a 12 ounce glass of beer in the hotel bar costs 950 yen. This seems rather high so I ended up going to the nearby Circle K and picking up cans of beer for 130 yen each. I did not try any of the restaurants in the hotel in favor of finding cheap noodle or other restaurants which are plentiful. The room was very clean and I enjoyed the stay immensely!
