“Westin quality and excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Though the property is older, it maintains the expected quality you would find at a Westin property.

Bed is comfortable and bathroom is up to par.

Be sure to walk to the temples which are within a five minute walk from the hotel.

Thank you so much for your comment! One of our specialties is Heavenly beds in one room. I hope you were able to enjoy and relax in the room.
Our hotel has over 120yeas history, and we always work on keeping our property neat. We are happy to hear that you liked our location. As you mentioned, we have the convenient accesses to sightseeing and transportation.

“The best international and traditional hotel with REAL service in Japan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Highly recommended!! Very reasonable for what we get.
I should say this is the best International and Traditional hotel with REAL service in Japan, the only Hotel kept beautiful Japanese traditional garden and tatami rooms in great location.
We stayed early this month with kids. We had a very good time although my son got sick as soon as we arrived Kyoto and most of the time we just relaxed in the room. We took turns to go to the GYM and go out to town while my son slept. I highly recommend to walk around hotel in the morning! Fresh air coming down from mountain is amazing there!

There are several impressive things we have to say about the hotel.
There was a female door-woman opened up easily our baby stroller when I came out from the Taxi holding my sleeping daughter. That was made me the most impressed I had ever felt. They must be training them to open any type of stroller. If not, that is very valuable service that perhaps only women can think of. I think if male door-men opens up baby stroller, even more impressive!
Not only the door-woman, but also in the café when my son was very sick and sitting and sleeping on the chair, a waitress came to ask and care several times if there was anything she could do, suggested to he lie on the sofa near-by and brought an iced towel to cool down his temperature. Perhaps when you see someone is sick you don't want to get close, right? But here, I confirmed they have real hearty service. Of course my son healed very quickly.
High quality Real service! Excellent Hotel!!! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Executive floor- good wines, sake and superb hors d'oeuvre on cocktail time. Any room with Hea...

“A huge complex, that is ok, but not amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This is a huge complex and is spread out over a large site, it is well located and the staff are very pleasant, but it is bait of a rabbit warren and it takes a day or two to just find your way around. The Chinese restaurant is very good, and the coffee shop offers a good range of cakes and coffee. It is easy to get around from and there are very nice walks close by.

“A Good Choice in Kyoto”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

people found this review helpful

I stayed at the Westin Miyako for 2 nights in January 2012. The hotel is conveniently located a 2 minute walk from the Keage subway stop, and also has a free shuttle service to and from Kyoto Station. The front desk staff is friendly and proficient in English, which is not always guaranteed in Japan. The rooms are clean, modern, and quite large, which again is not always the case in Japan.

A couple of complaints: (i) the only place in the hotel with wi-fi is the lobby; (ii) I asked the concierge what the best way to see alot of sites in a short amount of time was and she suggested taking a taxi between sites, but didn't suggest hiring a taxi for the day, which saves you ALOT of money. I wish she had suggested that; and (iii) my room was reallllly far from the elevator, so make sure you ask for a room close to the elevators, if possible.

Room Tip: Request a room close to the elevators. If you're a Starwood Preferred Guest, request an upgrade...

“Great location, lush retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent 3 nights at the westin miyako and were happy with our stay. THe hotel staff was very helpful and proficient in english. We rented bycycles from the hotel which were available at separate desk near the lobby and were reasonably priced. The location of the hotel was great as it was next to the trees and some treking paths at the same time was walking distance from the main centre of kyoto. The hotel has a large capacity and we had to walk through many corridors to reach our rooms. the room itself was a little strangely set but was very comfortable and large by Japanese standards. The food at the hotel was exceptional. the gym and swimming pool facilities were complimentary.Wireless internet was available only in the lobby, wired internet was available in the room and was not complimentary.
