“Fantastic experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2012

Great location in KL. We stayed there in the beginning of 2011, at that time it was being renovated around the entrance but it didn´t affect the whole experience. The lobby is pure classic luxury. Rooms were impecable, the bathrooms in full marble with beautiful details. Probably the biggest and most complete breakfast I have ever seen with all you can imagine, I cannot say the best I have had. Try the afternoon tea and you won´t regret it. They have one of the coolest night clubs in KL. We didn´t try the food at the hotel. The pool area has a huge jacuzzi and great views of the park. I would stay here again without any doubt.

Tip: Our taxi driver recommended an indian restaurant within walking distance from the hotel, Bombay palace, best indian we´ve ever had.

“Be careful when traveling alone & staying at the Mandarin Oriental.”

I can't imagine going there alone again. I was staying at the Mandarin Oriental for business. I went out at 2:00 pm for a business dinner and meeting until 930 pm. I came back from dinner and I was tired. All I wanted to do was get rest because I had an early morning meeting the next day.
However, when I got to my room I saw my door was open. A wet towel was placed on the floor, keeping the door ajar. I immediately thought that someone had broken into my room or was still in the room. I was afraid to go inside alone so I asked a business colleague who was staying on another floor to come check my room with me. Fortunately, nothing was stolen and nobody was inside.
I called the lobby to explain the situation and asked to change rooms because I felt unsafe and uncomfortable that someone may have been in my room. They weren't so apologetic about my situation and were reluctant to help me change rooms. I had to ask them to change rooms, they didn't offer. I even waited over 15 minutes before they finally responded to my request. The reception eventually gave me a new room, on a new floor, but it took a long time.
On a night where I just wanted to get rest, I was up worrying about my safety. Even if this was an accident, this type of situation shouldn't happen in a 5 star hotel.
I have another business trip in October, but I just can't put my trust and safety on the Mandarin Oriental because they don't seem to make safety a priority for their guests.

Room Tip: Don't assume a 5 star hotel is safe. Have a list of emergency contacts in case. I hope no one ha...

“Lovely hotel, good location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed here for 2 nights in February and thought it was lovely. My only complaint was that when trying to call reception to tell them the tap water was yellow I was on hold for ten mins before hanging up, getting dressed and going down to reception to tell them in person. An engineer was sent who ran the water for 5 mins or so when it started to run clear, but no offer of sending housekeeping to clean the bath. I was a little surprised at this in a 5 star hotel. Otherwise the service was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The room itself was large and well equipped, and the pool area was lovely. I would stay here again.

“Great Location”

I and my mom stayed at the Mandarin Oriental during our vacation in Kuala Lumper, Malaysia a week ago. It has a great location just next to the Twin Tower, so shopping is easy. The breakfast at the Mosaic Restaurant is great. Also the Hainan Chicken Rice from the Mosaic is excellent. We enjoyed the Japanese and Chinese restaurants there. Staff is nice.
We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental a couple of times when we visited Kuala Lumper and it is our favorite hotel in KL.

“Great hotel - but had A/c problems !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2012

Myself and my wife stayed here last week in room 1223 - and had the business plus package. This was also a deluxe corner room with towers view on one side and the park / Traders hotel view on the other side. The towers of course are too close to be seen fully.

The package included breakfast for both as well. The b/f spread was the best we have had so far - and each and every bakery product was perfect. Surprizingly, all juices were 'chilled' juices - but freshly squeezed juices were provided on request - not charged extra.

The infinity pool area (though a bit small) - was also very good and the service for guests this area is excellent. I used the business centre briefly - crisp and efficient.

Two things we were not comfortable with:

1. The room A/c was not working fully - resulting in temp of 26+ in the room - on a hot KL day! Housekeeping explained that the A/c problem was being faced by many rooms and they are working on it. I think the problem got sorted out when we left 3 days later. But they did provide a table fan which eased things a bit.

I have read about these A/c problems in the MOKL in some earlier reviews as well. For a 5* hotel, this was not a very comfortable feeling.

2. Ours was a corner room - but you can easily see in to the next adjacent room ! Not very comfortable !

Apart from this, we had an excellent stay and the location itself is worth it - as we spend so much time at the Suria mall for shopping and food.

On the whole - 4 / 5 stars. The basic package cost us about MYR 1,400/- for our 3D/2N stay.

And yes - on reaching the airport, I realized that I was missing two credit cards - thought I must have dropped them somewhere. But on reaching Mumbai and checking my e-mails, I had a mail from MOKL - informing me about the cards - which I must have left some where in the drawers in my room. Atleast these were not lost somewhere - this was no doubt a great service by the hotel.

Room Tip: Check on working of A/c !
