Stayed 5 nights at Somerset and loved how much space there was in the 2BR apartments! Shower pressure was excellent also. Breakfast was basic but included in price, housekeeping could have taken more notice of our requirements (eg provide more amenities when we had thrown them out!). Location is a bit out of the way for KL but within 10 mins of excellent Pavilion shopping centre with awesome food court, and 5 mins from Jalan Aloe food street! Would stay again
Service apartments NOT a hotel.
Pros- friendly staff, decent Indian Muslim food 5 mins walk away, row of pubs on changkat bukit bintang 5 mins away. Can walk to Bukit Bintang (6-7 mins) Jalan Alor(5 mins) Pavilion (15mins) Petronas towers n kLCC walkable as well but take a break at Pavilion before walking another 5-10 mins. TIP: traveling with kids, take a cab and go by meter. KL menara tower is 10mins walk BUT take a cab! Thank me later :)
Cons: overpriced, my 2 bedroom cost 500+ ringgit but is seriously lacking. TV is archaic from the 70's and TV selection is pathetic, NO WI FI in rooms! BReakfast is unbelievably BAD! I read earlier reviews but it was worse then I imagined. The roti canai n teh Tarik across the street near park royal was so much better at 4ringgit. You really feel short changed after spending 500ringgit a night when you sit down for breakfast. The rooms although good size, clean was looking n feeling dated but I must add good enough for a 2 night stay. If you get the 2bedrooms at below 250 ringgit it's worth the stay.
The location is a bit frustrating at the 1st sight (construction work + smelly narrow streets nearby), but generally it is very close to Bukit Pitang shopping district and monorail station. We stayed in 2-bedroom apartment and it was really large and airy. All necessary things in kitchen, we bought cheap sushi from supermarket and ate in the hotel.
From one bedroom we had a view to KL Tower which was really nice at night. The bed is very hard and I personally did not like that.
The breakfast is poor and did not change at all during our stay. Swimming pool was not heated and my kids were the only ones who used it. There is a small, but new play area for kids, and it seemed to be pretty safe, too.
The receptionists were polite and tried to help with everything, their English was kind of strange, so it takes some time to understand their speech.
The elevator doors close very quickly, we never managed to enter without being kicked by the doors.
My wife and I stayed here while visiting the Thai Consulate to gain new visas. The hotel is wonderful and sparkling. We decided to treat ourselves as usually this is a bit out of price range. Well worth the extra money spent for the high standards and warm welcome by every member of staff we encountered.
After a night out we returned to the hotel in the small hours and my wife's left boot had become unstuck from the sole. She mentioned it to the nighttime receptionist who immediately phones someone to come and fix it for her. The guy was there in a matter of minutes for no charge but she left him RM10 anyway.
The rooms are fantastic and we got a great upgrade which was much appreciated, a bath tub which is now a novelty for us, free newspaper in the morning, and it's just a minute's walk (honestly) from some of the best restaurants and bars, in our opinion, in the area.
