My wife and I have stayed in different hotels in Manila over the years since she is an ex pat and we go back to the Philippines quite often from Las Vegas, Nevada where we live. The Tropicana is a good fit for us. It is across the street from Robinson Place Mall and offers one and two bedroom suite/apartments with a full kitchen. It lessens "culture shock" when you can cook your own food or eat at any one of the many food outlets at Robinson's.The rooms are move-in-ready, whether you are staying for a month like us or just a few days on business. In an effort to keep their prices reasonable they only air condition the bedrooms which are bigger than my bedroom back home. Each guest room has a walk-on veranda style balcony that allows you to adjust the cross ventilation in the living room to offset the topical heat of Manila to say nothing about a great view of Metro Manila, To stay relevant in the growing hotel business in Manila and to address previous customer reviews they are currently renovating and updating the decor of their rooms. They have been doing this on a one-room -at-a-time schedule for several months now. They have partitioned off the kitchen from the living room by adding a whole new wall of cabinetry but have left the dining table and living room in sight of each other and have updated to new refridegrators with outside cold water dispensers that let you add your own bottle water. This is a real plus in Manila and lessens pouring water from those large gallon bottles. All in all with its unique venue guest rooms and always courteous staff ( I don't know how many "Good Morning Sir" I have .responded to over the years). One last thing is the manager Linda, whose has the patience of Joob, and her front desk are great when it comes to last minute changes in schedules. We usually take several side trips outside Manila when we are there. I can't tell you how many times she has come through for us in modifying our stay plans, not like the big hotel chains. To my knowledge, The Tropicana does not subscribe to travel sites. You deal directly with Linda and her staff when you book your room. This greatly reduces surprises when you check-in. The hotel is family owned and you probably will bump into the very friendly owner or his wife who are almost always around the hotel. If you are reading this review then you are already have enough information to contact them direct...
Room Tip: If you don't need two bedrooms, book a one bedroom suite. They are just little smaller but come...
