“Good accommodation on a budget.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

The Tropicana offers good accommodation for the price paid. The reception staff are helpful and the rooms are clean and tidy. We stayed in the 2 room apartments and whilst the bedrooms are air con the main living area wasn't. There are rooms which do have this so if staying you would need to ensure you request total air con. The air cons are window boxes and are a bit noisy however this is common in Manila if staying at budget price accommodation. The showers are fair and water pressure is a bit low. As in most hotels in Aisa double check what you have booked and if able get in writing as there was a mix up in rooms sizes as we had 3 rooms booked for all travelling and ended up with 2. Whilst this happened at midnight after a long day travelling they were very quick to get us another room which did require cleaning before we could go in. There is no restaurant but a little cafe which is ok next door. The hotel is in Ermita which is very busy, old and quite run down although there is Robinson shopping centre within close walking distance which offers many food outlets and good shopping. Their driver (Joel) is marvellous and very helpful. If on a budget a good place to stay however if you want better quality and location go to Makati.

Room Tip: Ask for room which has air con in living areas if staying in 2 bedroom apartments. They are on level...

My wife and I have stayed in different hotels in Manila over the years since she is an ex pat and we go back to the Philippines quite often from Las Vegas, Nevada where we live. The Tropicana is a good fit for us. It is across the street from Robinson Place Mall and offers one and two bedroom suite/apartments with a full kitchen. It lessens "culture shock" when you can cook your own food or eat at any one of the many food outlets at Robinson's.The rooms are move-in-ready, whether you are staying for a month like us or just a few days on business. In an effort to keep their prices reasonable they only air condition the bedrooms which are bigger than my bedroom back home. Each guest room has a walk-on veranda style balcony that allows you to adjust the cross ventilation in the living room to offset the topical heat of Manila to say nothing about a great view of Metro Manila, To stay relevant in the growing hotel business in Manila and to address previous customer reviews they are currently renovating and updating the decor of their rooms. They have been doing this on a one-room -at-a-time schedule for several months now. They have partitioned off the kitchen from the living room by adding a whole new wall of cabinetry but have left the dining table and living room in sight of each other and have updated to new refridegrators with outside cold water dispensers that let you add your own bottle water. This is a real plus in Manila and lessens pouring water from those large gallon bottles. All in all with its unique venue guest rooms and always courteous staff ( I don't know how many "Good Morning Sir" I have .responded to over the years). One last thing is the manager Linda, whose has the patience of Joob, and her front desk are great when it comes to last minute changes in schedules. We usually take several side trips outside Manila when we are there. I can't tell you how many times she has come through for us in modifying our stay plans, not like the big hotel chains. To my knowledge, The Tropicana does not subscribe to travel sites. You deal directly with Linda and her staff when you book your room. This greatly reduces surprises when you check-in. The hotel is family owned and you probably will bump into the very friendly owner or his wife who are almost always around the hotel. If you are reading this review then you are already have enough information to contact them direct...

Room Tip: If you don't need two bedrooms, book a one bedroom suite. They are just little smaller but come...

“Good location and nice room size”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Located on a quite side street near the Robinson mall and Ermita night life. The room size was nice with a kitchenette if you opt for the one bedroom but needs to be updated. The staff is friendly and take care of your needs. The only problems I had was with the free wifi which is not compatibly with all devices like my ipod. Also problems with cable tv because it would lose the signal and you had to sake the wire to get it back. This is my second time staying here and I would give the hotel 3.5 stars.

Room Tip: Do not stay on ninth floor. Elevator only go to the 8th floor and you have to walk up a flight of st...

“great place but don't use your credit-card”

Very nice place at a great location. Good choice in room types; even 2 bed-room places.
Be aware that if you are using your (foreign) credit-card, they will charge you USD or EURO with a bad rate and you will end up paying much more than necessary!

“Great location and very clean”

4.5 Stars. This hotel is maintained very well and fully staffed. I went with a group of 20 people and they were able to easily accommodate all of us. I had a 2 bedroom suite which was great. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, big kitchen, big living room, 2 balconys with nice views, 2 bathrooms. Couldn't have asked for more. Had to go to lobby to get wifi. Smaller fitness area but enough equipment to get a good workout. Nice big pool with a lifeguard and refreshments available poolside. Convenience stores and restaurant right next door (which delivers right to your room if you want), and Robinsons mall is just a short walk away.

Had an amazing trip and would definitely recommend the Tropicana.
