“Home in the Heart of Ermita”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011 via mobile

The second best thing about Rothman Hotel is its location. It is very centrally located in d heart of Ermita, just 100m to d left from Robinsons Mall. Next to Pan Pacific hotel, Rothman is also just 200m to d right from d famous Malate pubs n bars. It is also a 100m shortcut through sister property Riviera Mansion to Mabini street and Hyatt hotel casino. D location is unbeatable!

But even better than that, to me, is the value. Only Peso1870 (US$45) gets U a very decent, large Standard room (no free wifi, no breakfast). Well maintained & clean. No nasty surprises. A/C works fine. Water is hot n water pressure is good (tho shower head needs changing). A little renovation is overdue (esp in d toilet, old tiles) but that wud mean higher rates! If it aint broken, dont fix it! (Minor blessing - <ants yes but> no roaches seen at all during my stay - rare feat in Manila!)

Rooms at d back are extremely quiet (quieter than a library!), n a small dining room separating d bedroom from d corridor eliminates all hallway noise... Real peace & quiet in d heart of Manila! Unheard of!

Recommendations: Hotel is just across d road from a great "genuine" massage spa (peso 1100 for 90min massage, ask for Susan), from Freddie "Anak" Aguilar's pub Ka Freddie n is next to Phils. imitation of (Bonchon) Korean fried chicken - Charlie Chicken.

Location can't be beat! I've paid a lot more n gotten a lot less in many Manila hotels. Hands down, Rothman has d best value rooms in Manila!

“could have been more pleasant”

its nice that its located near a mall. but i got a bit disappointed when i saw rothman's facade. a bit old and in need of a painting job. staff service is very good.. then there was some kind of odor inside the hotel that i noticed from the moment i walked in. cant explain what it is but its quite irritating. i hoped that my room was better.. bedroom space is very good, as well as fixtures, except for the aircondition maybe. bathroom good..and the odor...still there and its worse. although the room was clean, the odor made it hard for me to sleep. except for the smell, rothman would be a great hotel to stay in.since the hotel says its under renovation, i hope they consider finding the fault in this quite malodorous place.

Dear Sir,

My apologies for the inconvenience during your stay. I have looked into the concern and it was due to the renovation at the time. Rest assured that the problem has been found and fixed. We hope to see you back again.

Centrally located in Malate, close to almost everything you want to see/do in that area. Security is good in the hotel and the staff are more than adequate in attending us whenever needed. Overall, a satisfied time over I had there with a group of friends.

“Find a cleaner hotel with a better location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

I got this place because I heard online that the rooms are quite big. That might be true but the hotel is in a pretty bad area full of beggars, filthy sewage and the like. The hotel says it is undergoing renovation but the rooms and facilities seem a bit run down. Wi-Fi isn't free and costs 100 pesos per hour.

I also had to endure the noise of cars and construction in the morning.

Overall, this hotel isn't anything special and you can get better in Manila for less. I'll pass on this the next time I hit Manila.

Room Tip: Pay for the deluxe room since the price difference between a superior is minimal.

Dear Sir,
I would like to apologize for the construction that was ongoing during your stay.  In the future, you may also ask for a room in the back to avoid hearing the noise of cars.
It is true that there are some beggars in the area.  It is unfortunate but it is a fact of life in Manila. There won't be too many places in Manila where you won't see beggars roaming around, but they will not harm you. Despite the beggars, I am sure you would agree that Manila is still a fun place and has its own charm. And we are in a central location in Manila being steps away from Robinson's Mall, the Hyatt Casino, a short walk from Manila Bay, a short drive from Rizal Park, Intramuros and the airport. As for the internet, we are looking into providing free wifi by 2012.

Looking at your reviews while you were in the Malate area, the only other hotel in our area that you had made a review on is the Diamond Hotel which you rated 4 stars.  We are pleased that you had chosen to stay with us and had given us 3 stars considering that we are in a completely different hotel class from the Diamond Hotel which is a 5-star hotel.  Our rates start at P2125 and some rooms on promo for P1870 as compared to the Diamond Hotel's starting at P7500. We pride ourselves in providing the best value for money in the area by providing large clean rooms at a budget rate.
