It was the first time I stayed again in Sofitel after they renovated and the hotel exudes luxury. From the lobby and its lighting to the French bath ammenities.
However, I wish the hotel can be more eco-friendly. I don't remember having seen a note that gives you the option not to change sheets and towels on a daily basis. If the hotel did, the staff assigned at our room changed the towels on a daily basis even if I opted not to.
The same is true for their restrooms near the ballroom and function rooms. Instead of having a hand dryer or paper towels, they have cloth face towels to wipe your hands with. Since we were a big group and the ballroom's temperature was quite cold, there were a lot of people frequenting the toilets. I can just imagine how many gallons of water were spent to wash those towels!
The stay was quite pleasant. Looked forward to sleeping on the Sofitel MyBed after a long day of business meetings. Our room didn't have the view of the bay but we got to see the fireworks from the nearby Mall of Asia at night.
The mini-bar in our room was not working, so I called housekeeping about it. Someone checked it but still it didn't have any indication that it's going to be near cool. I reported it again the next day but was told by housekeeping that the mini-bar was only meant to be a cooler and not a ref and was advised to just request for ice if I wanted to drink my orange juice cold. I gave up and just requested for ice. I just wish the next room occupant is not into yougurt as I'm not sure how long it has been more of a mini-box rather than a mini-bar!
The in-room wi-fi got cut off quite often and didn't always recognize my password but good thing I was not charged for the multiple attempts to get a new account.
The steam rooms and the jacuzzi closes at 12 midnight but when we went there around 10pm, we had to go out of the locker rooms to the spa reception to ask for towels. And the receptionist didn't seem to be too happy to have guests coming in at around that time.
I'm not sure if it is because the Spiral restaurant is still under renovation but the selection of buffet breakfast was always the same every single day the 4 days I had breakfast there. Quite disappointing considering Sofitel was always known for its buffet selection.
Hotel plus is the overall courtesy of the staff. Quite friendly is the old guy who was assigned to our floor, who since he saw I was under the weather, would always give me a couple of extra complimentary bottled water when he would clean the room while I was there sneezing and wheezing. There is still opportunity to improve on bell service. Took a while before some one came to help us check out so we ended up hauling our luggage all the way to the parking lot.
Room Tip: Choose the room with the view of the Manila Bay
