After staying more than 15 years in the legendary Ca’d’Oro hotel (those were the days…), I had to find me another temporary refuge in SP while the Ca’d’Oro is undergoing a major refurb.
Why not try The Tivoli hotel, leading hotel of the world, can’t go wrong, no?
The Tivoli is well located and check in went smoothly, the paperwork was well prepared. I was given room 1501. The room was supposedly a “collection room “, whatever that may be.
My room was opposite the elevators; normally I would have changed rooms, but I was so tired after a 40 hour journey from Hong Kong to SP, that I reckoned I would sleep anyway, elevators or not.
I was wrong. I woke up after 4 hours of deep sleep and could not get back to sleep because of the constant noise.
It is not the normal noise of opening doors en people entering and leaving the lifts, but it is a practically continuous rumble and roar of the lifts going up and down, extremely irritating!
The bathroom has only a rain shower and no hand shower, quite annoying, especially when they do not provide a washcloth!
Breakfast is served in a kind of refectory, not very inviting. Buffet selection is adequate and coffee is good.
I noticed nothing exceptional or special about the hotel and I leaves me puzzled what on earth they are doing among the Leading Hotels of the World. Perhaps it is the in house Banyan Tree Spa?
When I complained about the noise at check out, they apologized. It was clear I was not the first guest to complain about this
Hotel Tivoli was a bad choice and I will have to continue my quest, until I can return to my beloved Ca’d’oro.
