“Sublime and Inspiring”

Each year, my Mother and I take a few days holiday together, and this year's choice happened to be Bali. After intensive research, I decided on Alila Villas Uluwatu, and here we are, spending the last precious few hours overlooking the stunning Indian Ocean from our spectacular villa.

I travel a great deal and have been lucky enough to stay in some of the World's most amazing places ( Qualia, Le Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons, Ngala Private Game Reserve, Plaza Athenee, etc ) but this place has completely blown me away! From the minute we arrived, and walked through the jaw dropping entrance looking straight through to the Ocean beyond, we have been cosseted and completely looked after in every respect. Everything has been thought through and there is nothing left to chance. As a designer, the detail of the rooms and gardens has left me speechless - I have never before encountered somewhere where the reality far surpasses the photos. The rooms are stunning whilst managing to be utterly serene - all at the same time.

The staff are also exceptional and all seem to have a pride in going above and beyond, both in attitude and service. I have read a couple of the previous reviews where the speed of the service has been questioned and I have to categorically disagree. Out of our 6 days here I think the longest time I waited for something was 15 minutes for a croissant - and that was because it wasn't on the menu and they baked it especially for me! That shows the level of commitment and service which makes this place truly rare. They only once asked how I like my coffee ( which as I live in Melbourne is a massive deal ) and then it appeared beside me, and perfect, every morning . The same with my martini in the evenings. The food deserves a mention too - seriously good, both in the Indonesian and in the Western restaurants.

The general manager, Sean, deserves to be singled out for his genuine kindness and attention. He has made us feel like royalty and treated my, somewhat aging, Mother with extraordinary consideration.

This place is truly magical - I will definitely be returning with my husband. Frankly, I can't wait.

“Clifftop heaven”

We spent three days at Alila Villas Uluwatu after a week at Tanah Lot. Everything was stylish, tasteful and comfortable. The villa was very comfortable and private with a great pool and huge, airy, light bedroom. Sean, the manager, was very attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble. The views from the Sunset Bar are amazing. We ate every night at the Indonesian restaurant, taking advice from the waiter, which proved highly successful. Wonderful food, excellent service and at the end of the stay delivered speedily to the airport. We will be back.

Room Tip: If you don't mind a walk down to the pool and restaurant it doesn't matter, but the top vill...

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

My wife and I went to Alila Villa Uluwatu last year, stayed for tonight. Love the villa, the pool, breathtaking views, and also the excellent breakfast. Staffs were very friendly and helpful also. This is definetely villas for honeymooners as location is a bit off from main tourist attraction, so very quiet. Overall, enjoyed the stay.

“Chic contemporary designed resort, the layout of the Villas tailors well for a truly relaxing getaway.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012 via mobile

The design of the hotel is modern chic which we like very much. Service in general is so so, without much personalization. Only 2 restaurants and the service was quite slow. Breakfast is delightful with different fruit cocktails and mixed juices every day. Spa suites are very pretty with a range of spa products. Will definitely go back.

“Heaven on Earth!”

It's now been five months since my visit to Bali and Alila Villas Uluwatu. It's taken this long for me to come to terms with my denial that I ever left the paradise I experienced there. To put it simply, I am a seasoned traveler who travels significantly for work and almost as much for pleasure. All of the properties I stay are known for their service. The ones I choose for my personal holidays also are typically considered luxury properties. Generally my two favorites are Four Seasons and Aman Resorts.

When booking my trip to Bali, I read many reviews for the many properties that seemed to fall into the categories above. Based on what I read and with recommendations from travel advisor I selected Amankila, The Four Seasons Ubud and Alila Villas Uluwatu.

The first property we visited was Alila Villas Uluwatu. Upon arrival, we were put in a beautiful villa on the hillside overlooking the entire property and out into the Indian Ocean. While it was exceedingly perfect, it was a bit far from the main complex. I reached out to the manager Sean Brennan to ask if there may be another room available that was a bit closer to the main resort and to the cliffs overlooking the beach. Sean was incredibly generous with a solution to make sure we were happy. Because there were no single villas available in the area where we wanted to move, Sean upgraded us at no charge so that we would have what we wanted -- a much closer view of the ocean. It was PERFECT and AMAZING. The beautiful modern and green architecture of property (designed by award winning architect WOHA) and the ideal location of the property being perched atop a steep cliff 600 steps above the beach are only the beginning of what created the ideal holiday for us. It was the delicious food, the warm and friendly staff and the gracious hospitality of the General Manager that makes Alila Villas Uluwatu a destination you will not want to leave.

To prove that, we were so delighted with our stay that we canceled our reservation at the Four Seasons and decided we would end at Amankila....only visiting two properties while we were in Bali. The sad day arrived when we had to pack and make our way to the much-aclaimed Amankila. We arrived at Amankila and quickly realized it was NOT the same as Alila Villas Uluwatu. While the luxury level feels a bit more exclusive or it possibly once was, it somehow felt as though it was artifice and less authentic. What we experienced at Uluwatu was decidedly real, not forced... and natural, peaceful taste of luxury I had not experienced. So, we spent ONE night at Amankila, called Sean Brennan again and explained that we really weren't happy at Amankila and wanted to return HOME to Alila Villas Uluwatu. He arranged for us to be driven back to Uluwatu immediately.

Although we did eventually have to leave Bali and our friends at Alila Villas Uluwatu, this holiday is a vacation I will carry with me all my life -- truly a wonderful escape to heal the pains of a sometimes harsh world in which we live.

Thank you Sean and the rest of the staff at Alila Villas Uluwatu for a wonderful holiday and an indelible memory. We hope to visit you again soon!
