We went there in June 2010 with the 3D2N package and there were 11 of us (incl my parents and sisters in-law). The resort staff at Mersing was helpful even accompanying us and providing tips to my wife as the ferry was very late. When we arrived at the Kampung Genting jetty, again someone from the resort was there welcoming us and help our baggage onto a wooden trolley.
Surprising also we were given a sort of welcoming drinks, some briefing and room keys. The first thing we did is to collect our snorkeling gears (gogles and life vest) as we were told the outlet will be closed at 600pm.
The quad rooms with two (2) double beds were built on stilts (something like the traditional Malay house) perching on hill slopes. The staircase was steep, and not advisable for elderly person, likes my mother in-law. The rooms looks old & sparse and the air-cond was too small for the room. Luckily there was a wall fan. However the tap water was very cold, refreshing and again we were lucky the water heater was working well.
There were several power cuts that night and a tochlight will be handy. The next day we went for our snorkeliing excursion to Pulau Renggis and the Marine park. We were lucky that we managed to spend half an hour the day before trying our snorkeling gear. Most of us were first time doing snorkeling except my sister in-law. She taught us some basic steps. During the first drop-off at pulau Renggis, everybody on-board just went down into the water and there was no basic instruction given to us by our Guide (as stated in the package). Few people get panic and came back on-board. I spent about 15 minutes calming my son as the water a little bit choppy.
The foods expecially the BBQ were good (for me as Malaysian). Anyhow the resort was right near the jetty and there were several food stalls open up till 1000pm plus. The convenience store open up till 12midnight.
There was small beach in front of the resort and clean clear water. The water is shallow and during low tides, you have to go further out to swim. However there's no corals to see around that beach.
For any excursion it'll be an advantage from the resort as the jetty is nearby. However on the way back to Mersing, we found out that Kg Genting is the last ferry stop before heading out to Mersing. Hence by the time it reach our jetty (not to mentioned the time waiting for it), it was was almost full.
