“Nice spot, clean room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

The beach in front of the bungalows is the most beautiful of the island according to me. The owner, Zaid is a nice, fun, very helpful guy. We really enjoyed our stay, even if when we arrived Zaid had lost the record of all customer reservation! ;). That the fun of the voyage I guess.

“Best Spot on the Island”

Salang Sayang is a short, 15 minute boat ride away from the airstrip by boat. It is a pretty cozy place and personally, my favourite and most happening village on the island. Easy access to many food outlets nearby, snorkeling/diving gears for rent. Cost us RM200 for a room for four persons with two queen-sized beds and a crucial attached bathroom. The main issue with the room was bedbugs.. so be sure to check the under the bed the first thing when you get there and request for another room if an infestation is present. Our toilets were a little runned-down, but functional (wasn't able to request for another room as there were 4 of us who wanted to stick together and that was the only room left). As for service, there is no room-service (can't expect room service for that price), but the resort staff are very friendly and helpful. The biggest asset this resort has is coral - probably THE BEST spot on the island, which is pretty convenient. Would personally come back as it is one of the most affordable places on the island.

Room Tip: Check under beds for bedbugs and see if toilets are functioning before making yourself comfortable.

“The best spot on the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

Salang is a the best beach and village to stay on Tioman, at least in my opinion. I stayed at Salang Sayang for a long time and it was a great place to be. Rooms are footsteps to the beach and the resort is located on the best part of the sand. Because it is located at the Southern end of the village it is very quiet at night which makes it super nice if you just want to relax and listen to the gentle waves lap onto shore.

There are around 25 chalets, some with A/C and others just fans. I had a fan room and it was no problem since it cools down enough at night and there is no reason why one should be in their room during the day time. The patio is a great place to chill and read a book, talk to your neighbor or sip on a beer. Rooms are basic but clean. Any time you need new towels or sheets just ask the staff and they are quick to help. Rooms at Salang Sayang are a little more expensive than the rest of the island. The only justification I could see for this is the location to the beach. They are working on a new addition, four new units that should be done some time early next year and there is a honeymoon sweet on the hillside.

There is Wi-Fi in the reception and the signal reaches into the restaurant. So if you've got a computer you can connect at a small fee. I'm not 100% but if you're a guest there they might give the password for free. Don't quote me on that.

Food is good and cheap and the fresh fruit juice's are great. Hang in a hammock drinking fresh watermelon juice or from a coconut and life can't be much better.

The staff are all awesome at this place and they will do their best to make you feel like you're part of the family. Join in on the afternoon volleyball game, rent kayaks, snorkel equipment or take a boat tour around the island with Jimmy. This place is all about having fun while you're in Salang.

“Great stay, good food, fantastic location and simple rooms.”

We spent 8 days at Salang Sayang. Salang Sayang is a very simple resort. It has a accomodation, restaurant, simple store, snorkel/ canoe hire and tour bookings etc..... We ate most of our meals there and enjoyed each one. The tables are right on the beach. Good variety. We got to know all the staff. The staff were all warm and helpful. The manager was a bit gruff, but ok. Location is second to none. Salang Sayang is set on a small bay.The island is pristine rain forest with monkeys and squirrel in the jungle. Huge lizards roam in the morning. Snorkeling just off the beach was magnificent. Massive variety of fish.
The accomodation is very reasonably priced. Don't expect the Taj Mahal . The room was simple but comfortable and bathrooms are basic. Fan, mosquito net, cold water ( which is warm anyway). Our rooms were up a series of stairs and looked over the bay. Magic. There were no noises near us so we slept well. Would recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms up the stairs have a fantastic view across the bay.

“A great break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We had a wonderful 7 days at Salang Sayang on Tioman Island. The beach was beautiful - you just walk out and snorkel from the beach - and there were so many beautiful fish! The "resort" offered a round island trip (with snorkeling and a visit to waterfalls) and we also took the Coral Island trip. On that one, we saw turtles, stingrays, sharks and a giant cuttlefish.
The staff at Salang Sayang were helpful, warm and friendly. We had most of our meals there - great cheap food eaten at little tables right on the beach. The cabins we stayed in were on the headland - terrific views over the beach, cool breezes and the best view of the tropical storms! The cabins were basic - cold water showers and primitive bathrooms but cheap and clean. It was safe enough for our daughters to stay in a cabin next to ours. I would recommend Tioman Island and Salang Sayang!

Room Tip: Ask for a cabin overlooking the beach - well worth the climb up the steps!
